And what might that be then? A bruteforce or dictionary cracker?
If yes, then re-read his question... he asks if you can open it WITHOUT the password...

In this dialog you may enter a default password, which will apply to the add, extract, test and view operations.
If the "Show password" option is disabled, you will be asked to type the password twice to ensure correctness.
If you set "Encrypt file names" option, WinRAR will encrypt not only file data, but all other sensitive archive areas like file names, sizes, attributes, comments and other blocks, so it provides a higher security level. Without a password it is impossible to view even the list of files in archive encrypted with this option. This option has sense only when compressing data to RAR archive, it is ignored when the default password is used to decompress data or to compress to ZIP.

So no.

Someone should create a crack for it.

I dont even see what the discussion is about here. Like The_Fiend said their is no way to bypass a password protected .rar file if you dont have the password.

meh, there's no such thing as an uncrackable password, as long as you know the limits of both the encryption and the original key. IE-less than 10 digits, all letters, etc. Of course, if you know it's a word, then it's as simple as a dictionary attack, maybe you know it's a word starting w/ "w"...you get the idea. Here's a cool link for password strength:
http://www.lockdown.co.uk/?pg=combi&s=articles

I used to use john the ripper for...well, nevermind what I used it for, but that was mostly large lists of shadowed passwords from...well...nevermind, not specifically encrypted files. I'm sure that the .rar format uses a specific algorithm, not a true encryption, but I could be wrong.

Google says this is good:
http://www.rarpasswordcracker.com/

But..I dunno, I've never tried it.

It would be really time consuming and hard to do for someone "new" at Cracking passwords

You would first have to find the One-Way Hash of that file...Then you would have to use an algorithm to generate another hash untill the hashes match......So unless you somehow know the hash you are pretty much screwed

[Longish rant]
The thing was gents, i answered the question straight :-D.
He asked if there was a way of opening it WITHOUT a password, and let's be honest, without a password (or, in other words, when there's no way to find it), then no, you can't :-) .

That's also why i posted my comment on bruteforcers in my second reply.
The problem i find with any type of password "finder" is that true bruteforce can take ages, and wordlists are lacking to say the least, especially since there are more and more people using the foreign language method (google it or ask around). [/longish rant]

I wasn't casting aspersions on anyone's response, lol.

I haven't actually cracked passwords since I was 17 with my TOP OF THE LINE p1 133 laptop, haha. Getting all the passwords to certain uhm...maybe...age-restricted...websites and selling them was how I paid for my dates, lol.

In other news, my member status changed! No more waiting for 3 minutes! Horray!

There is several programs that brute force or dictionary attack the file until you get it...

i saw a post on a fourm ages ago where they did loads of things to it and found out the password but it looked very longwinded and complicated...
