For most serious gamers the choice is irrelevant.
I myself have a PS1, PS2, Gamecube, XBox, and Xbox360. When the PS3 comes out I plan to get one. When the Nintendo Revolution comes out I plan to get one too. I have an HD-DVD player and when Blu-Ray comes out I will also get one. Good thing there are component and HDMI switchers available so no matter how many inputs your display has you can always accomodate another device.

Yeah it is free. However, their online system won't change much from PS2. Hosting and providing servers will still fall on the shoulders of the developers and because of that there will most likely be few good online games, just like PS2... Microsoft really is enticing developers to make multiplayer since they cover everything after the game's online play is finished. If you ask me, Sony hardly made the changes they acted like they would and it's going to be just another crappy online network. I realize they didn't say everything about the Playstation Network Platform or "PNP" as they call it but they said enough to make them look like morons.
I'm not saying I've experienced anything by the way. I'm just saying that they really haven't changed their strategy from PS2. From what I've read they have it setup just like PS2's online system and we all know how that went.
