I have this

it has an option to display images in 1080i or 540p

SO my question is which resoultion (1080i vs. 540p) will give me the best results when playing xbox360, watching dvd's and watching high def OTA programing?

The XBOX360 and most HD-OTA channels are 1080i (I think ESPN and ABC-HD are 720p). So my guess will be 1080i for the 360 and HD-OTA. Now DVD's are trickier since you did not specify if you had an upconverting player or not.

I am using my xbox 360 as my dvd player....so is that an upconverter?

The Xbox360 will output DVD videos at 480p so it is not an upconverting player. Try 540p and compare it to 1080i - see which looks better for DVD's.

Always use 1080i. 1080i will give you the best results with any matirial. All video streams will be scaled to 1920x1080i using the default scan mode.

No the 360 doesn't upconvert.

I have a Toshiba WS HDTV. Both of our sets have the CrystalScan function that upconverts everything to 1080i. Now this dose not make regular tv stations Hi-Def but it makes them have cleaner lines than other Sets. I would set the 360 to 1080i. The difference between I an P: I= Interlaced the signal is projected in alternate lines or interlaceed. P= Progressive the singal is projected twice for higher resolution. the number 540 1080 ect means the number of lines of resolution. The higher the number the higher the resolution(picture quality).

Ok...so what does interlaced look like compared to Progressive?

What is the actual diffrence that you see when you play a game in interlaced compared to Progressive?

There are more lines of resolution shot on to the tv screen. For a clearer picture brither colors etc....

I don't think you'll notice a difference between interlaced and progressive if you are high on weed. But who knows - I may be wrong.
