AArrgghh I've been using DVDShrink and Nero recode for months now with no problems. Starting last week, Nero refuses to eject the disk once it is burned. I've tried everything to get the disk out to no avail. It requires a restart to get the disk out, and then it looks to not even be burned. Shrink doesn't act like there is any problem burning and neither does Nero. I unistalled both Shrink and Nero (though my Recode is all of the sudden gone!). I'm going to post on one of the malware boards to see if I am infected again......because I have an 80gig external drive that overnight has duplicate files on there that weren't there at all yesterday. I'm using the latest shrink version and Nero is the 6.6.0.18 version that came with my HP 740i Double Layer Light Scribe drive (purchased in 2/06). Not sure where else to try something! I DL'd the 2nd Nero package as it listed that Recode 2 was on it, and it still isn't showing up in Nero.....though that darned Yahoo toolbar sure is. When I tried to go around the Yahoo thing, it quit installing the Nero portion....though the site says that it isn't mandatory to have.
Not sure what types of log to post as I don't get any errors while burning at all.

Even if you dont get errors, you should still have a log in the usual locations.
Nero 6 history log location: Program Files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.txt

Nero 7 history log location: Program Files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>NeroHistory.txt

These things record all burns, and we only need the last one. The burns are seperated by something like this:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
====== *** NeroAPI, History File *** ======

Windows XP 5.1
IA32-xxxx-xxxx-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

that was from a Nero 6 log, but 7 looks much like that. Underneath the divider is the operating system, and right below that is the begining of the serial number. When posting a log, just include the last burn log, and be sure to edit out your serial numbers by typing xxxx over them, or deleting them before posting to the forum.

Look for the nerohistory.txt file and post it. The log will show up any conflicts you may have.

Hi Max burn, Thanks for the reply, I was beginning to feel invisible :) I've unistalled & re-installed both programs, so didn't have a ligfile from the last go-rounds. I guess I need to write in to Nero as well as to where my Recode went to? According to the links provided in this forum, I should have been able to dl the install pkg #2 and get Recode. Nope. Anyways, I tried again this morning and it acted like it was burning and said that it had finished successfully, but again, it would not eject the disk so I had to shut down and retrieve it now.

OK, that is very weird....I just checked to see if I could see anything on that disk and my drives are set up like this: E: is my new HP Lightscribe, F: is my CD-RW and G: is my external Blue Eye DVDRW drive (that pooped out on me months ago, but will still play DVD's.)My computer is saying that it is a Sony? I tried to read the disk from G first and it said it was not accesible, so I put the disk in the E drive to see, and for whatever reason, as soon as I did, under My COmputer, it changed from a DVD RW to a plain CD drive? As soon as I took the disk out, it changed back to a DVDRW drive. Me thinks I am headed to the looney bin :)

\Here is the logfile from the burn I did earlier this morning, hope you can make some sense of it! Thanks again for your reply....this is driving me crazier.

Hi Purrrdy,
Lets see what we can do here. First write down your serial numbers as you are going to need them.
When you un-installed Nero before, did you use a clean tool? Nero has these, and it removes registry entrys also. The version of Nero you have is not 6.6.0.18, its
Quote:
Nero Version: 6.6.0.16
and that version had bugs. So you will need to remove Nero (again) and install the .18 version.
Use the cleantool:
http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/General_CleanTool.html
Then DL and install the .18 Nero
http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_burning_rom/tech/?539
It should give you your recode back.
Quote:
Disc not empty. Insert empty disc.
It thought the disc you were using was not blank.
As far as media goes, i would suggest using Verbatim or Tys found under Sony, Maxell, Fuji, if made in japan is on the spindle.
Quote:

I would suggest going no faster than 8x, starting at 4x and working your way up to 8x.
The log said burn successful, but as you said, you had to reboot to get it out. Try the version update. The one i linked doesnt have the Yahoo toolbar. Try different media, and see if that helps also. I couldnt find any firmware updates for that HP drive.
Give those things a try, and post back here with a burn log, if it still fails. Nero that came bundled with the HP drive is an OEM version of Nero, and they dont always have all the features turned on, and will only work with the drive that nero came bundled with. Still, if it had recode before, it should let you have it again on an update.

Thanks for all of the info......I tried both of the DL's and got even less features than I started with! So, I dl'd Clone & Any DVD and both of them worked just fine. Boy.....Nero has some serious issues....or at least with me :)

I use CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD about 98% of the time and never have problems. I like the ability to keep the menu, and the main movie only, or i can select one or two extras. Clone doesnt booktype, but both of my drives have other utilities that do that automatically for me. You wont be sorry you got both those programs.

I just found a setting in Nero that tells it to NOT eject the disc after a burn. It is under the Options part. I will post a capture of it. Maybe you have that checked and that is what is keeping Nero from ejecting?? Just a guess.
Here is the setting:

Also here is a link to a thread my buddy Rav009 put together on PC health.
