Hi,

The DVD's I burn take about 30-40 minutes on my new Compaq Presario AMD Turion 64 notebook, with 512 ram...Even though my drive is a 16x, why does it always end up writing at 2x?

If I get more ram/memory, would the speed increase? Also, would getting more ram/memory prevent those scrambled boxes from appearing randomly in the movie? What causes those boxes?

Thanks!

The "scrambled boxes" you refer to is called pixilation, mainly caused by using poor quality discs.
It doesnt matter what "speed" your burner is it's goverened in part by the "speed" of the discs you are using.
512meg RAM is considered the Minimum required when burning.

even though blank dvd discs are claimed to be 8x or 16x burn speed, this is not always the case especially if they are cheap imitation of well known brands. The burner in your computer does a check prior to burning (ie it reads the manufacturers data on the disc) prior to burning and it selects the suitable burning speed.
