ok first of all make at least 2 backups of your halo 2 maps and 1 backup of your C and E folders on your computer
yes first of all do you want to make your own mods or use other mods that people made. if you want to get mods online then go to these following websites to get them

select a map (start with new maps they are easier) then save it to your computer. when you save it, it will tell you what type of file it is (ppf, sppf, or serenity)
get dothalo, coolspot's map resigner, serenity, and super ppf-omatic just google them
you transfer the maps onto your xbox by a process called ftping get the program FlashFXP just google it
After downloading a map you have to apply a patch here is a link on how to apply a ppf, sppf, and serenity patch i suggest starting off with a ppf because its the easiest to understand. ok here is the link to my tut
then after that the original map is know overwritten with the modded map. then open coolspot's map resigner and open the modded map and press sign map...next ftping
here is how to use flash fxp and transfer maps to your xbox
if your xbox is connected to a rouder then on your xbox dashboard (modded one) go to settings then network, and change it from Static to DHCP. otherwise leave it as Static and connect your xbox to your pc via ethernet cord.
next open flash fxp and where it says connect (lightning bolt symbol) click that where it says server or url type in your ip of xbox (its at the bottom right of the modded xbox dashboard) then for username put xbox and password put xbox (it's the default codes)
then go to E folder then TDATA then the folder that ends in "64" there should be 3 folders (new maps) just to let you know dune= relic, deltatap= sanctuary, and triplicate= terminal. then drag and drop the file from your pc (the left side) to the right side (xbox)
for old maps you have to make a copy of halo 2 on your xbox hdd. if you want to know how to mod old maps just ask me. it's more complicated than new maps especially if you want to play on xbox live with them so i suggest just using the new maps for know. if you want to start making your own mods then just ask me. and i suggest that you buy "Halo 2 Hack" you can buy it off amazon.com for $15. i know my tut was kinda unclear especially since you just started this so if you have any questions ask me. and ask before you actually mod on your xbox because it wont be good if you mess up your xbox. and just to let you know if the screen goes black or when you pick up a weapon and the game freezes that means there is an error with that map nothing is wrong with your xbox. and mod offline if you have xbox live otherwise make a new account just for modding because YOU WILL BE BANNED only from matchmaking. ok and if you want to know how to unmod your xbox so you can go on live just ask me. that pretty much sums it up.
