I found a rockbox installer. i installed the installer and now it says to download the latest build. and to extract it in the ipod root. where is that?

Assuming you have an iPod Nano, then the latest build would be at the top of this list,

if you're talking about what is the ipod root that just means place the extracted files in youre ipod drive.
