i have v4 ps2 and i was wondering if using maxwell high grade +R will work fairly well

No, I would use 8X DVD-R
The V4 and below will not read the +R media
And i have never heard of Maxwell DVD's
Did you mean Maxcell? if so make sure they are made in Japan and not made in Taiwan.

if you mean maxcell then yes they should work but there are better alot etter out there that you should be using to make backups, EG Verbatim, Tayio Yuden etc. Try them

I always use Verbatim DVD-R And have never encountered a problem even when others say they have with different media Verbatim always does the job for me
