I've just started having this problem, that when I burn games, my ps2 is
having a hard time booting them(doesn't go to ROSD, goes to the system
config screen). It still boots previously burned games(which I've burned
close to 100)with no problem, but its just the ones that I'm currently
dl and putting to disc. I backed the speed down to 2x,which worked for a
while, but sometimes it still is having a hard time starting up.

Info:

Ps2 with duo chip
DVD decrypter with TY DVD+R(which I've used many in past and it hasn't
had a hard time reading the +R)
burn at usually 2x or 4x

I thought it might be a laser prob, but then why isn't it having a hard
time booting the previously burned discs? Does the speed of burning
indicate what the problem could be?

Bad batch of TY's?
DVD burner prob? Firmware need updated?

Possibly a bad batch of discs, or they might of changed the dye on them & your PS2 no longer likes them. Its happened to me before & I had to switch brands all over again. Before you do that, though, I'd clean the laser lens with a DVD Lens Cleaning Disc, or failing that, some alcoholic based cleanser on a cotton bud.

hello

yes, check the ID of those disk's,use dvd identifier for that as it gives a detailed report about the disk's.

@ace1uk,those laser cleaning disk's are bad....:(,you can actually damage the ps2 laser with those things,as they can scratch the surface of the lens
cotton bud is the best way to go,or a lint free cloth

@Weasrock,try using a lint free cloth and some furniture polish to give the disk's a once over
and does your burner support booktyping?,if yes booktype them dvd+r's to dvd-rom.

cheers!!

could be the discs, or could be that your burner is just wearing out.
I stared to have the exact same problem with game and movie back ups either not playing or being a bit glitchy.
I bought a new BenQ burner and have not had a problem since.
The bad DVD's would of course be the cheap choice which i hope that it is. But if you try a few batches and brands with no luck, then try cleaning the DVD Burner with a laser cleaning disc. If that don't work then it may be that the burner is going.
My Sony was only like 2yrs old before i wore it out.

thanks guys. I hope it's not the burner, I just got it in December, so it's pretty new to have to booktype also, but I'll look into it. Mostly they boot, just not "catching" as well after the "playstation 2" logo and loading

if it is only about 6 months old i would say it is most likely not the burner then. Possible firmware outdated.
I would try some other media first and see if that solves it.
Booktyping is a great idea with +R media if you can do it. Just makes it more compatible as a DVD-Rom
