I'm trying to burn a movie to a DVD, but it needs subtitles (hey, I don't speak Swedish). Anywho, I have a .srt of perfectly timed subtitles, and no way to directly apply them to the video. I've tried several programs, but none of them allow me to save the subtitles right on the movie (example: I send the file to a friend, he can see the subtitles without having the .srt file). Is there a way I can do that? Thanks a bunch.
What do you mean by "burn a movie to a DVD"? Also what are you starting with?
You can author a DVD with subs from an srt using DVDAuthorGUI or convert to sup using srt2sup or subtitlecreator and author with MuxMan (have to change colours after authoring), ReJig, IFOEdit, etc.
If you are burning say an AVI as data for a standalone MPEG-4/AVI player, then most support external srt's fine.
If you are already planing on converting say an AVI to DVD video, then there are apps that support subs.

Could you be more specific of the software we should look for?
I have several AVI that plays on PC fine but want to combine them into a DVD with VOB,BUP, etc so I can give to my friends so they can play on their DVD standalone player.
Thought would use memu so they can choose the TV recording of their chose.
Seems most of what I read is about menuing AVI for a PC. But cant seem to find instructions on menuing them and burning in VOB or some DVD format.
Can you help?
@jagman55, what you want is a DVD authoring app that supports multiple titles, menus and subtitles such as DVDLab Pro.
To hardsub an AVI, frameserve it with AVISynth and use textsub to add the subs.
avisource("whatever.avi",false)
textsub("whatever.srt")
Open in say VirtualDub, save out the video using your codec/settings of choice, then remux with the original audio. You could also use textsub as a VDub filter, however that means converting to RGB24 colourspace.
