Is there any program to convert .avi files to dvd's that do not resize the video? it should be the same size and hopefully quality as the avi file. thanks a lot

when you convert an AVI from one format to another like mpeg2 you are going to get a size change in the file NO matter what you want.Or do you mean widescreen to full screen

i dont mean widescreen to full screen. but anyway, what if i take a video that is 480x354 and use dvd santa to convert the file to a "low" resolution of 352x240, would there be loss of quality in the mpeg2 file?
i see it as..there would be a loss of quality if you convert to a higher resolution such as 720x480. so, would converting to a lower resolution ultimately appear clearer on a tv?

i dont think so unless you are running it through a filter to preserve quality

If you're speaking of 'keeping aspect ratio' you can increase X until it's 720 and add black bars to (720/X)*Y until it gets 480/576 (NTSC/PAL).
For instance; VirtualDub. Video__Filters+Add ---> Resize

Then input:
1) new width: 720
2) new height: (720/X)*Y
3) filter mode: lanczos3
4) expand frame and litterbox image: 720x480/576 (NTSC/PAL)

then frameserve (read among http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/) to an encoder of good quality.

But, unless you use an encoder of great quality (and needing much time) it will be very difficult to keep the same quality of the input.

Unless your DVD Player is capable to read DivX movies and that AVI is a DivX AVI......
