Hi everyone,

I have a home theater in which I use a Logitech Z-640 THX surround speakerset, which is connected to the 5.1 sound card of my pc. When I try to play dvds, the sound is very good (mode : 6 Channel Direct)except for one thing. The center speaker ,which is used to render dialog, is very quiet. The dialog comes out with a deep bass / echo, almost unaudible. I've tried nearly everything. I have ffdshow / AC3 Filter installed and was thinking it had something to do with that, but I just can't find the problem. I have the same problem with Xvid playback, although not with all movies.I tried searching the internet, but no luck. Does anyone have a solution for this please? It's driving me mad :(
Thanks in advance

Try this:

1. Run the FFDShow audio filter configuration.
2. Scroll down the left panel and check Mixer
3. For Output speakers configuration choose: 3/2+LFE 5.1 channels
4. Increase the Voice level until you hear a satisfactory output from you center channel.

With FFDShow you need to tweak the settings until you find one that works with your system. If you are using Zoom Player or Theater Tek I think you can also tweak the AC3 Filter settings to increase the center channel levels.

I run into a similar problem sometimes. When I am watching a DVD, I get good clear sound and no dialogues or they sound as if the spreaker broke.

I run the diagnostics and/or the speaker test. That fixes it for me. My 2 cents.
