filtering out porn, thats just bullsh**
even if it does come with opera, why would you filter porn if you know someones just gonna hack it later by bypassing the stupid firewall

I guess that's going to suck for
1.) people under 18
2.) people who don't have a computer
3.) people who bought the Wii to use as a web browser (hopefully no one is that dumb)
4.) people who have never tried to bypass filters. It's not that hard.

You do know a computer can't tell whats bad and what isn't, it only blocks names related to adult material. Just rename the files to something different, and voila!

This is going to be cracked in days of its release. Its simple they block for some KEY words. So What you do is make the words a picture then BAM......The Wii cant tell what it says.

Now come on gents. You know as well as I do that someone's going to develop a "game" that uses position-aware controllers for...well, you know...POV interactive style...well...you know.
I give it less than 12 months honestly. Probably not necessarily nintendo licensed, but you KNOW it's going to happen.

I hadn't seen where the Wii would be filtering porn, but I wouldn't doubt it. With the controversy that arose from the GTA Hot Coffee mod to the more recent Oblivion modification, imagine the outcry some would make if a game console allowed direct access to porn. Some retailers (read Wal Mart) might refuse to stock it, hurting Nintendo's bottom line. Never mind that you can browse porn all day long on a computer or cell phone with a browser, or that anyone with enough technical savvy to apply the hot coffee mod could easily disable google's safe image search. The fact is that people still associate video games with children even though the majority of players these days are adults, and if a console was internet enabled without some kind of parental control or filtering capabilities there would be repercussions from several groups.
It's also interesting to note that one of the few risque games that was on the last generation of consoles, BMX XXX, it was Sony that had the toned down version, not Nintendo.

well said.
also see it this way nintendo has made this console mainly for children, so anyone under the gae of about 12 who buys the wii will probably not know how to bypass the filter, unless he is a underage hacker. so if your old enough to know how to get past the filter and want to look at porn then go for it, buit thats the reason for nintendo putting a filter on the wii.
