well...you know, the music store really.

I'm also a big fan of allofmp3.com , which is fun, because it's really pretty legal, and very cheap, like...2 cents a megabyte. So, like...full albums cost around $1.50 for nice high quality, or songs for around 10 cents.

It's legal because it's legal in russia, and it's legal for you to do business in russia electronically. They pay russian royalties and everything. It's safe and secure and whatnot, and there's not way to get busted for p2p because it's a secured connection between their server and you...no peers.

Beyond that I occasionally use soulseek or BT, but most of the music I like...the artists LIKE p2p, so it's not...per se...illegal.

I've tried just about everyone of those free sharing things and the best one i've found is limewire

reasons:Fast downloading,downloads rarely fail,quality music...

There are a couple things you should know about limewire or any other file sharing system:

1)when searching a file don't just click on any one of the songs that match you're search.there should be an area where it says the speed of the download (try and go for T3 wich is the fastest).

2)Allways make sure that it's an mp3 file for music and that the file is the smallest possible(of course needs to be minimum a MB)

Smaller music files for the same song = lower bitrate = lower quality.

And...if you're consistently using limewire for music downloads, what you really need to do is send a letter to the RIAA with your address and the list of songs you've downloaded in the last 12 months, because...well, it's basically what you're doing already.

Limewires good, I use Limewire Pro, I'd use Frostwire if I was you nowadays, aslong as you've got PG2 running in the background whilst connected according to TomMelee's BT Bible theres a very low percentage that you'll get caught file sharing.

I usualy go for the whole albums theese days downloading them via torrents...Limewire and Frostwire are great for the odd tune though :)

Aww shucks he kicked me some props.

And when he said "you have to support the artist you know", he meant that you need to pick up the musician and carry him or her around on your shoulders.

no, not quite. I meant that the artist job is to make music for us to enjoy... if all you do is pirate the shit than your not giving the artist the support and respect they deserve.. buy the cd.

Ronnin,
I would totally agree with you if the prices of Cd's we're cheaper but paying 25 euros for a CD is outrageous.
In the case were the albums were 5 euros then i would also agree with you.
The artists that make the music are already packed with more money then they need and they're generally living a great life anyway.
If i we're very wealthy then yes i would buy the music of itunes music store.
For now I'm not rich so I'll be fine and dandy with frostwire. And i'll probably start using that Russian based thing that you talked about, Tommy.

As we tread on the topic of feeding the artists, I'll point out a couple of my opinions on the subject, as well as some facts.

1. Artists don't make much on album sales compared to the cost of the album. It's like 10 cents an album @ the most. It's the recording company that gets most of it. They actually make more per song @ iTunes, because the company can't get away w/ charging them packaging, etc.
2. They make most of their money touring, w/ concerts, gear, etc.
3. Endorsements are also a prime way of making cash, same for sports stars.
4. Most major record labels suck, seriously. Stick to the good music, the non-overproduced trub, and then buy the albums. I buy a lot off the Epitaph label, some off of Fat Wreck Chords, etc. Arista/Sony/BMG/Viacom etc can go die in a fire as far as I'm concerned. Of course, the artists on the minor labels are usually in favor of music downloading, and I think a lot more people try-then-buy w/ minor label bands than with major label ones.
5. And, lastly, I could care less if Ashlee Simpson died of starvation because nobody bought her album. Same with just about every other bunch of crap from a major label, of any genre.

That's my 2 cents, anyway.

"Limewires good, I use Limewire Pro, I'd use Frostwire if I was you nowadays, aslong as you've got PG2 running in the background whilst connected"(from rav 9)

frostwire is even better then limewire.
Download's seem to be a touch faster with frostwire.
