I have been playing all of my dvds fine since i got my ps2, I have never had problems with it before but a few days ago it would not play any of my dvds. i tried restarting my ps2 and unpluging it, cleaning disks, but it still will not play them. it is playing my games and i can hear it running properly but dvd disks are not spinning properly. Is there a way i can fix it without sending it in the mail somewhere? PLEASE HELP!

Sounds like a laser problem, try cleaning the laser head, and you can also try to adjust the laser (do a search in the forum for this), otherwise you might need to replace it

Thanks, but i dont know if that is it, it will play my older dvds but not my newer movies, but it used to play all of them. it may be a problem with the lazer but it just seems to have selective dvds and i'm not sure why. Its playing my old cartoons but not my dvds that it always used to play. Any information may help.

Are the dvds that you had problems with copied ones? If they are, what media (brand of dvd, type [+R/-R], speed) are you using?

doesn't really matter what media is for a DVD (not game) and the speed doesn't matter, i burn dvd movies all the time with crappy Memorex 16x and I burn at 16x and get a perfect picture everytime

It DOES matter what media you use, but with movies the effect is not as clear. Using cheap media just means your laser will die out faster, doesn't necessary mean that the PS2 won't play the movies

yes.. Dan is right.. if you want to stress out your laser use crappy media, if you want your ps2 to stay for the years soming use DVD's or CD's like sony, taiyo yuden or verbatims
