First of all please forgive me if this has already been asked or answered...

Ok I've downloaded a torrent of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon SACD version...the file is a wave file, and its about 438 MB in size at 1411 kbps....but the problem is that it doesn't play...when I play it all I hear is static and noise, nothing else, on the filename it says "SACD-DTS" ....now I've read all the other posts about you guys saying that the REAL GOOD (the 6 channel mix)part of SACDs can't be ripped to any other format and can't be played back on PCs...so what i want to know is that is this file a piece of junk, and is there no way I can enjoy the music of the SACD album...(the real thing isn't available in my country !!)

there's a cue file along with it.....the first few lines of that are as follows:

REM GENRE Classic Rock
REM DATE 2003
REM DISCID 810A120A
REM COMMENT ExactAudioCopy v0.95b1
PERFORMER "Pink Floyd"
TITLE "Dark Side Of The Moon (SACD-DTS)"

please explain to me what the hell this file basically is...and tell me if i'm wrong or right in saying that i've wasted my time downloading this torrent....

What you have here is a copy of the SACD mix that has been recorded into someone's computer via the 6 analogue outputs of the player, and converted to a DTS-CD disc.
It is NOT high Rez.
It is a 6 channel mix, and the encoder has muxed it into what looks like a 16/44.1 stereo file instead. An SACD it ain't though. You cannot, repeat cannot, rip an SACD.

To burn this, simply use whatever audio CD creation program you have - as long as it supports the CUE/WAV combination.
THe process is lossy compression - but it is still very good (assuming, of course, that the person who made it knew what they were doing. For best results with DTS-CD, the source files should be at 24/44.1 resolution)
The disc MUST be played back through a DTS decoder, or all you will get is that static noise. Use a DVD player hooked up to an AV amplifier with DTS decoders, or a DVD player that can decode the DTS stream internally, or even some CD players with digital output also hooked up to a DTS decoder.

It's okay.
I still think the original Alan Parsons Quad mix is superior though.....

AFAIK, Nero supports CUE sheets so should burn it with no trouble.
As far as the Creative Lies card goes I don't have the first clue.
A 4.1 setup will probably not do the job as the disc is a 5.1
You must play through a suitable DTS coherent acoustics decoder, and the usual way to do this is through a 5.1 or greater soundcard running WinDVD 6 Platinum, or VLC withh DTS filters.
Best way is simply through a home cinema system, as the average speakers on a PC will not do this the justice it deserves.

What Pirated DTS Audio?
DTS audio is one of 3 flavours:
DTS-WAV
Compact (.cpt)
Padded (.dts)
The first one looks like a stereo WAV file, and decodes back into 5.1 when played through a decoder, and should be encoded from 24/44.1KHz files.
The other 2 are for DVD, and should be made from either 24/48 or 24/96KHz files. .cpt (compact) is usually used by Apple's DVDSP and the regular (padded) format is the more widely used flavour. Additionally, the compact version is at half the bitrate of the padded variety.

DTS audio is not pirated - it is DTS or it is not DTS.
So I don't understand what you mean by pirated DTS Audio.

What I mean is just what this thread is about - an SACD that is recorded through analogue out (or digital using a hacked Denon 2900 or similar) and made into a DTS audio wave file. Which the original poster has downloaded using BitTorrent. It's pirated, and it's (now) DTS audio. Simple.

The decoders make no distinction though.
It's either DTS for DVD, or DTS-WAV.
WinDVD 6 Platinum plays all, including DVD-Audio.
WinDVD 7 is hobbled, and will not play most factory pressed DVD-A, as the hacked CPPM keys have now all been revoked.
