Hey Guys I have a small problem... i want to play burned ps2 games on my ps2.. right now i have a dvd+r/dvd-r burner and i have nero startsmart ... from what i have heard my hardware i have is perfect for this.. now my ps2 is the problem.. i have AR MAX and GameShark 2 v4 i think thats right ... the only thing i do not have is a swaping tool... what i am asking is can i make my own? or should i spend 25 dollars for the swaping tool and the loading software.... but my bud told me that AR Max does the trick and will boot the game...?
AR Max, does not load backups. The older versions of gameshark may work, but I'm not too sure. I don't think gameshark 2 v4 does though. So I think you may have no choice but to either buy Swap Magic, or a modchip.
i agress, get a set of Swap Magic discs or a good mod chip.
If you have an older chunky style PS2 you can make a slidecard and use that, but buying the fliptop is both easer and in my opinion much better than a slidecard.
but here is how to make a slidecard if you want

If you have a slimline then you have to buy an aftermarket fliptop or a set of tools you install that goe by names like
Magic Keys, Magic Switch, Ghost Switch, Slimtool.
However if you have a slimline, you can make your own set of "keys". Basically, there are two main sensors you have to make sure are pressed down in order to use swap magic with. It will make the laser read the game whether or not the PS2 lid is up or down. That is why we need them pressed down, to make sure the PS2 does not know you pressed the eject button to flip open the lid, to change the swap magic disc with the backup.
It explains throughly how to do this. However, it does mention using tissue on the last sensor, but I found it easier to just use tape again on it. There is another small switch on the top of the power button unit, simply tape this down aswell and that should be it. The laser should read discs reagardless of whether the lid is up or down, leaving us able to use swap magic, to boot it up, then swap it with the backups. Some people don't like using this method, but it is a way of saving money and is **very** easy to do. Hell, I'm only 15 and have next to no experience with these kind of things.

EDIT : Remember though, you will still have to purchase Swap Magic, but if you are using a slimline and decide to use this method that is all you will need, the discs and nothing else. If you have the older bigger models, you will need either a fliptop or a slide tool as Steimy mentioned.
um ... i see that you think you have the correct stuff to burn but NEVER use Nero startsmart ... if you have Nero on your computer (which you say you do) you will have a program called Nero Burning Rom ... do a search for this on your comp and use that ONLY ... it will burn your games ... go to this tutorial for help ... follow the directions and pictures EXACTLY
Why not use ImgBurn or DVD Decrypter? I use these despite having Nero and have successfully backed up 85+ games.
Also, liljon, you will need some high quality media, like Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden to burn games to, otherwise they will probably skip or may not even boot up.
