The general public doesn't really know yet.As far as online right now it's just a firware hack which ms can patch or may even ban you online.Not many people have done the firmware hack because it's hard to most but here is a link to stay tuned to.

i know u said ms can patch it but do u mean i can go online and they can patch me from going online or they can patch it and prevent me from playing backups please get back

No one knows because no one knows what kind of patch they are gonna come out with. I don't wanna be a nag or anything but next time SEARCH. Plus you can play online for NOW and it will play backups but not at full speed. This patch might affect both things or just XBL.

Hi,when I spoke of ms patching the firmware I meant this.When you play on xbox live ms may make it where you have to be running the current version of firmware(i'm speaking theoritcally of the future)to join a server if your found without the patch it won't let you join the game until you update to the lastest patch.
Also if you say... are running a hacked firmware ms will be able to detect it and ban you.Remember this is ms's network which has real people regulating and developing it.
Now if you don't care about xboxlive then you could just not update the firmware to the latest version and play your back ups.
However this console is still new and more and more progress has been made to make it easier on many levels.No one really knows much right now cause things are still in devopment and we don't want ms to know what were doing so they can counter it.It's like cat and mouse.

Im asking these question because i know some1 who can doit and im sick and tired of paying 60 bucks for games but also i have more then enough money to buy games so i might wait until further info about the patch comes to light because i love xbox live do u know when we'll have a steady patch/chip whatever that allow us to play live n backups please let me know also i understand its a guess

If you have "more than enough money" you might as well buy games because I think Microsoft will make sure that if you have this firmware hack you can't at the very LEAST play on Xbox Live.

i reacon we or someone should make a 3rd party xbox live since theres one on the original xbox, i mean all these rules for xbox live are ridiculus! and i hate the fact that games MUST be updated now! all the errors in the game...one... so someone should make a 3rd party xbox live, e.g fol your xbox into thinking yoru computers the xbox live server, and your computer redirects yoru xbox live connnection to a 3rd party server, sure it would probaly be ilegal , but everythinks ilegal these days.

Yep,It's not affordable and I hope the complete crack is soon too.I'm with you glitchzoo. I think they shouldn't make you update, but microsoft claims that "it's for the lastest in stablity and performance" and if anyone believe's that your just stupid .
We know ms will update the firmware and I bet it will be some explaination like that.That's why I want a real hack not a firmware exploit.And there working on it muhuhhaaahahaa!!!!

so far what i understand from the mod once the mod is installed you will be able to run backups and other games on live but microsoft will be releasing a new system update soon that will permently lock the cd drive firmware so you cannot bypass it

No no no dr.cool .It can only do that with updateable sh#t. There will be a real mod.Right now it's just a firmware exploit but other stuff is being cracked as we speak .There working on it.How long? soon like 7 months probably.
Man you would think you guys never went through the ps2,xbox,and gamecube hacker stages.Grow up .Lol I'm kidding.

tycobb, yes you are right there, but if we have to take the dvd drive to bits to upgrade the firmware who says that ms can updATE it rom the dashboard, maby the only way of updating it is by taking the thing to bits.
eah im waiting or the soft mod aswell, on the 'unhackable' console. we know more then the creator of his own console lol

lol yep were the sh#t.Well we know the nex batch of 360's will already be patched right out of the box most likely.You lucky first adopter's can do it but what about the next 20 million .That's where the real hack comes in, right in time for ms to ship it's new batch of updated consoles.ahaha lol

Let me make it clear.Ms will soon update the firmware out of the box.But they have not officially done so yet ,so I have no "site" Ms doesn't give warning and the hack industry knows it.

you got your facts there right, ms dont give you time in advance. the thing is people havent relized when they do this update they wont be able to play online OR offline. because even if the xox detects no internet connection it will still patch the dvd's frmware and protect it.so its sort of useless fullstop now.
pepole horght they would be able to use this firmware hack offline afer the update... bacically you wont.

honesetly guys im not worry about moddin my xbox , remember when the first softmod came out? everyone would always mess up and a big scene was made and everyone was confused and so forth... the big update the one everyone says about running in the background downloadng stuff while playing games.. well that update WILL patch the exploit so eiter way you mod it now and live is gone for a while if not for good.
remember theirs always a way .. just needs time to find out where and how ... no such thing is not hackable... so everyone just hang in there im talking about a good time thou dawg maybe 2 + yrs for agood mod.... just need time ...

If you all would read more like on xbox scene, you would realize the error of your ways there is no gaurantee that they can update this through the dashboaard and most of you are unware of the risk this would be for MS. Please do some more research some of your questions would be a bit more clear.
