It might be ur dvd player, some older models have trouble reading dvd Rs Also it might help if you posed what you did to burn.

there are many reasons why a burned DVD won't play in a stand alone player. Here are some remedies:

1. Booktype your drive to DVD-ROM:
if your drive can, you should booktype to DVD-ROM so your burned
+R disks will be more compatible to players. Read this:
http://k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php
2. make sure your player can play +Rs or -Rs---- read the manual.
3. check to see if your player/drive's firmware is up to date"
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php
updating firmware will help your drive to recognize disks.

this should solve your problems........ next time please add to your reply on what programs you used to burn your DVD and what settings your did! enjoy! and welcome to AfterDawn

Two more questions for you?

1. What source is your initial video in?
2. Are you creating a CD (Video or Super Video) or DVD

@Gnomex....

when you say what source I assume you mean what format is the video file in. if Peter1976 burned to DVD then it should have been converted to DVD format, unless he made a data DVD which I don't think he would have!

Peter1976 says in his first sentence:

just because he mentions that he spoiled a few cds** doesn't mean he was recording the video on them. which leads me to try to understand that he has a DVD that he recorded and plays on the computer but not on his players, and that he tried to record on CDs and he "spoiled" them. Maybe his burner is going bad.. who knows..... he doesn't give too much info like: what programs he used and what kind of disks he used and what's his specs and so on and so on..... so we can only assume........ you're guess is as good as mine! Until we get more information then we can make better judgements and advise on what to do.

@IHoe ,

You are correct. At this point, it looks more like guesswork then anything else. I

However, one wonders if the source video was PAL or NTSC and then the tool used to process the video.

Yes, the source video PAL and NTSC can not be using together. You'd better change your source video for a try. If that doesn't work, I suggest you download Sothink DVD EZWorkshop from http://www.dvd-easy-workshop.com/ ,Maybe the tool will be helpful.

my favorate site: http://www.sothink.com/
they offer good free softwares~!
