Hi there - I apologise in advance as i'm sure this has been covered, but i have searched and can not find a straight answer to the following question

I have a new-ish slimline PS2

Will swap magic let me run backup copies of games from an externally powered USB hard drive, or do i need to get USBExtreme instead?

I would rather buy swapmagic as it also enables disc swapping, and usbextreme seems to have a few compatibility issues, but ideally i would rather run things from my external hard drive.

Once again, don't hit me or hate me if this has been covered in the past - just a simple answer would be gratefully appreciated

Swap Magic has nothing to do with running games from a hard drive, you would need USB Extreme to do that.
Swap Magic is for running back up games from a disc only.
I am not sure how you would run back up copies from the hard drive other than a good modchip. I know USB Extreme is made to run games off a USB har drive, but back up copies are a totally different ball game. Since your burner can not copy one area of the PS2 game because the games are pressed discs and not written to.
This is the reason swap magic is needed to run back ups from a disc in the first place. You will have to do some research and see if USB Extreme can run back up copies.
