I am looking to buy a new receiver for my home. I currently have a 7.1 surround sound system and not sure what is a good receiver out there for the price. Can anyone direct me to which ones to look at? Thank you all for my help.

Forums are a good start, but whatever the person you are talking to is usually biased to what they have. Look at whats on the market right now, it seems to change weekly. Check crutchfield, circuit city, best buy, even walmart, amazon. See what has a high customer satisfaction rating. Then filter down to what you are willing to spend, add 50 to 100 dollars to that, and you'll have a pretty good selection to narrow down even further. After you have it to under a dozen, do a review search for the specific amps you have selected. Read the buyers feedback. If there is a problem people will be heard. If you get an amp that has more connectivity and functions than you require now, in a couple of years, you will be grateful you bought it. There is nothing worst than buying the latest, "best," and finding it obsolete a month later. Just my sugg, when I get interested in a certain upgrade, review, compare, and wait. Do it again a couple of weeks later and see if there are any complaints. One of my amps is right around 20 years old. Still cranks, but no optical or digital inputs. That was cutting edge tech then. I guess after all of my rambling, concider buying more than you need right now. Stick to the top brands. You won't be sorry.

I agree go with known "well-names"...I have a Denon that is now old but performs superbly.
