Why would they want to release all the specs? Everyone would laugh at them.

No they havn't, but I can tell you that it is about 2-3 times more powerful than the GCN.
While it's true that the Wii is technically inferior to the 360 and ps3, Nintendo (and president Iwata) is trying to stray away from the specs because they are trying to make a console that appeals to everyone, not just the hardcore gamer market.

Well it would be interesting to know. I know that it's not pushing the limits any at all but info like that would give us some idea of what kind of performance to expect from the console.

That's nintendo. They've always been very secretive sometimes with good reason like with their control.
In this case however I dont think either sony or ms wants to steal hardware ideas from them. So it's not neccessary this time around. It came be a really pain to get out whats going on with them.

Perhaps it is because when you look at specs and then look at the top selling console, specs don't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

The specs for ps3 and 360 get released way before the console launch as part of the marketing war between the 2 companies. It's not about informing the gamer, but conning people into thinking they need to have the most powerful console otherwise their gaming experience will be lacking.
Nintendo hasn't released the specs because the specs aren't integral to the idea behind the Wii. Their marketing is aimed at making people think, "Wow, the Wii looks fun with that remote and all," and selling consoles (to a broader market) that way.

Ok everyone may have herd about the tech specification rumours that are going around, some say it has a 750Mhz CPU and some say it has a 1.1Ghz CPU well I have a new theory.
I'm not going to say that these are the true tech specs I just came up with two theories as to how the Wii hardware works.
And there not far short of being ignored.
Ok here goes I believe that the Nintendo Wii will feature either of the two hardware specs...
1...
Gekko I 750 MHz, Gekko II 1.1 GHz = 1850Mhz/1.8Ghz
GPU ATi R520 625MHz
RAM 1T 100MB
2...
Gekko I 485Mhz, Gekko II 750Mhz = 1235Mhz/1.2Ghz
GPU ATi R520 270Mhz
1T 88MB RAM.
Now I?ve based these theories on the way the Nintendo DS works with Dual CPU?s = 100 MHz together either way I believe that two CPU?s would work extremely well in a games console.
Thanks for reading my theory.

I think you guys are right. They can stay out of the hardware war and focus on their inovation.

There has been alot of rumors floating around that they are going to use Displacement Mapping. Is this true?

displacement mapping, bump mapping, etc. it's basically developers tools. I think they took the rumor off of wikipedia a while ago so I don't know.

Somehow, I highly doubt that the wii will be more powerful than the 360 or the ps3, (I won a 360 from mountain dew and I've played it the graphics are pretty insane) but what you guys have to realize is that that is not what nintendo is going for. The wii's main strengh lies in it's innovativene controller and the unlimited potential for the most original and fun games to be made, it's really all up to what nintendo and the developers can do with it. Call me insane, but even today I'd prefer good ol' Super Mario World 2 on the Super Nintendo over half the ps2 and xbox games out there... and I'm not saying that the graphical gap will even be close to that wide either, I'm just saying that the Wii has far more potential in the gameplay department than any other console, also it should be anticipated that the Wii will be cheaper than the other systems with it's speculated inferior hardware (as the case was with the gamecube), and we all know how nintento kicks the crap out of the other companies in portability.
GRAPHS
ARENT
EVERYTHING.
They do count for alot I'll admit, but I also highly doubt that you'll be seeing a notable gap between the three consoles when they all come out. (the diff b/t the gamecube xbox and ps2 werent that bad, in fact i think the cube beat out the ps2 graphics wise tho correct me if i'm wrong)
anyways yea.... GAMEPLAY > GRAPHICS in my opinion, you made respectfully disagree with my rants, but please refrain from mindless flaming.
bottom line, to me the Wii looks like it would be the most "fun" to play, and isn't that why we play videogames?

Well, if they DID incorperate it (which I doubt) the system wouldn't have to be just as powerful because it wouldn't have to use the high power to make polygons, it would put a mesh-type of coating over them to make it look like a LOT more polygons.

I never said they were. I'm totally about just gameplaying and i think that is why Nintendo will do well this generation because they will make fun games and not just good-looking games. What i meant was that alot of people rather have the Ps3 or Xbox360 over the Wii because of the graphics and I was just saying that if they could go with the displacement mapping that they would satisfy those consumers too.

Yea... I never meant to say "graphics aren't everything" as an actual response to anything, I was simply inputing my opinion and I'm glad you agree, I would love to see nintendo use bump mapping and the like, I mean it's not like I'm against good graphics, I'm always up for it... It's like chocolate; I don't believe you should worship it to be the greatest thing in the world, but offer me a bar of it and I'll happily accept it. Sorry for any misunderstanding about that last post...
anyways I would have to say that the generally the more powerfull a machine the better graphics it will be able to create, though with those techniques a nice effect may be accomplished, I would highly doubt that they would surpass the graphics of it's rivals. Really though, I don't expect the gap in graphics this time around to be any different then with the GC, PS2, and XBOX. And while you could easily tell who had the best and worst graphics of those three, you couldn't really say that it made much of a difference.
