I ever posted the following msg on Microsoft Forum but is was removed for "Off topic". It sounds funny.

Virus or adware is bothersome or disastrous to system or users sometimes. It seems that there is no way to prevent your system from that occasiaonally. But to get some ways to remove that is necessary. Here I will provide some valid ways to handle with it.

Once you found some virus or adware is running in your windows system,

1. go to the

Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs

to see if the application can be removed there.

2. Otherwise, use "Search" by "Specify Date" the directories of "%path%\WINNT" or "%path%\Windows" and "%path%\Program Files", to identify the new files with extesion "*.exe, *.dll" or some direcotries. In fact some of exe, or dll files can not be removed from your current running Windows System. Then you can make notes on these files or direcoties include the full path of them, then start another Windows System or DOS, rename the files / directoris or delete those. But the safest way is to rename.

Use DOS is good but the shortage is that it can not handle long filename and extension.

Also this way, you can remove Internet Explorer under any window systems. First, uninstall "Internet Explorer", then identify a file named as "IEXPLORE.EXE", and its path. Usually it is cached in the current running windows system, so you can use the way 2 stated above.

If your file is modified or attached with virus, then some professional software is needed to handle this case. Generally you can remove a lot of virus / adware this way at no cost except your time.

If you found it helps, drop me a response.

Good info..manual virus removal, but what do you do for something like win32parite that overwrites a vital system file with malware that you can't delete or rename or even copy because it's in use??

Not being awkward just this one is bad..It sets up a hidden open port server for the use of those in the know...The only way to be safe of it is to make the csrss.exe file read only immediately on installing xp..otherwise it's a reformat and install because you can't stop it running, and the kernal respawns a backup corrupted copy if you force delete it..

There are ways to make xp almost totally virus proof but I don't think MS will like me telling everybody, It also stops them detecting unlicensed versions and forcing unwanted updates on you..lol

Sounds good coming from a linux user...
