OK dumb question. Are you sure its a DVD drive? (Dont want to insult you, but just want to make sure). Are you trying to read burned DVDs in a DVD-ROM drive? Need model # of the drive in question.

How long do you let it sit with a DVD in it? It the drive continually trying to read the disc?

Hmm....maybe it it stuck is CD-Burning mode. I've had this happen to me. The CD-R/w drive always thought there was a blank disc in it. When I would open the dsrive in My Computer, it would always have the "Burn these files to CD' options, and the CD would show no files. Very odd.

Try a Lens cleaner first. If not, hopefully someone else will chime in with a better solution.

Good luck.

try uninstalling the drive in device manager than restart windows so can find the drive & loads it's own driver.

question. is your dvd that you want to play, original dvd or backup copy? if your dvd is backup copy and dvd player is only dvd reader/cd burner, then you may not be able to read backup copy. in this case, you may need dvd burner to read backup copy.
