Hi Guys,

I have the pro version of DVDRB using CCE and using AnyDVD to rip my backups to hdd and everything works fine except the Preview/Edit tab next to the Options tab.

I load up my VIDEO_TS folder, click "prepare" it does this fine but when I go to click on one of the VTS files I can't preview it I just get the black screen. If I double click on a VTS file it says "blank out", "slideshow", "no compress" etc. I can't preview any of the files so I can't tell what I want to keep and what I don't want. Has anyone ever had this problem before. I have tried lots of things and nothing works.

What program is DVDRB using for the preview? I can preview fine in any other programs "Recode" or "CloneDVD" but not DVDRB.

What could I be doing wrong. I have uninstalled a bunch of times and no luck. Anyone got any ideas. This is really bugging me.

Any help on this would be most appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi gobakes,

Still having the same problem I see. You might want to use dvdremake or vobblanker as your editing software prior to loading it into rb. Another option would be to PM jdobbs (the author of rb). Good luck.

Mort81,

Hah! I started a new thread just because I thought I was bothering you too much and to see if anyone else would help me and you still posted. I thank you again for taking an interest in my questions.

I finally worked it out! After much thinking, unistalling tearing out hair etc I worked out it must be one of the many codecs I have installed using the K-Lite Mega codec pack. I don't know if it was one of the codecs or maybe the free media players you get with it. I uninstalled the whole pack and loaded up DVDRB. It worked straight away! So now I can tell what I'm editing. This makes me very happy.

I still can't get DVDReMake to work with Rebuilder though. I like this program cause it edits out warnings and other stuff DVDRB can't find. I have tried various dvds and I get all the way after exporting from ReMake and down to the reuild stage and it bombs out. I'm not really that worried any more cause the preview/edit tab in Rebuilder is good enough. I tried it out last night and it worked fine. Prefect backup.

I have some other small questions though:

1. I have Rebuilder set on the default DVD-5 setting. I've seen some people say they increase this a little if using good quality media. What output size do you use and where do set this? I can't seem to find this option.

2. Now that I understand the basics, is there any other tricks you use with Rebuilder to get even better results? Anything I should try out?

Cheers for the constant help and if anyone else has this problem I know how to help them.

Bye.

gobakes,

Just leave all the settings at default as these settings have been tested and tried by jdobbs and work best at covering a broad range of applications. You can change the target size by typing in TargetSectors=xxxxxxx in the ini file but I don't recommend doing it. The default target size should come out around 4432 mb which is perfect and leaves a little area on the outside edge of the disc unburned but not too much. A DVD5 will hold 4483 and you won't notice a difference if you increase the target size but may run into playback problems at the end of your movies if you burn too far out on the disc. The only case you might want to change it is if you are using poor quality media (which is not recommended if you want good results) and want to decrease the target size.

If your using CCE 2.67 or 2.70 you can increase the number of passes on large folders (those requiring a lot of compression) to improve the video quality but the time required will increase dramatically. I never do more than 3 passes and leave it at 2 passes for most jobs.

If you do change the targetsectors in the ini file you must put it inbetween [paths] and [options] otherwise it will not work.

@gobakes........why doesn't your DVDRemake work with DVDRebuilder? I know that Mort and I use Remake all the time to edit out all the unwanted stuff or just edit the menu on episode dvds to hide a button or so! It works for us. Are you doing something wrong in Remake to make RB NOT work for you? Maybe you're doing something to the DVD structure that makes it inoperable and RB fails?! What's the error message?

IHoe, thanks for your reply.

DVDReMake Pro works fine as far as I know. I don't get an error at this stage. I edit what I want and export the files to a new VIDEO_TS folder. File>Export. It all looks legit. I then load up DVDRB and the new VIDEO_TS folder and prepare it, looks good, encode it (couple of hours later) seems to be done (no error still) but when I click rebuild it gets near to the end and bombs out. Says it can't update VOB file or something. I have tried about 4 dvds and get the same error. I've given up using DVDReMake cause it justs takes about 4 hours and then another error.

I am happily using DVDRB on it's own and this works fine for me. I still would love to edit out all the warnings and hide buttons etc but I can't get it to work. I might try one of the free tools like voblanker.

Every problem I've had since learning all this backup stuff I seem to be the only one with these problems so I doubt anyone has the answer - it's probably just my stupid computer.

if everything was ok with Remake Pro then it would play on your computer after exporting it! I still think you did something wrong in Remaker and when it got to RB it caused this error! Why would it work for me and Mort and not work for you???? It's not your computer it's something you are doing in Remaker Pro and it's not working in RB! Try playing the files that you export from Remaker before you put it into RB for processing! if it will play after export then it should have no problems in RB! That's all I'm saying!

Hi IHoe,

Sorry for the late reply. I gave up on DVD ReMake. I don't think I was doing anything wrong, I just think for some reason it didn't agree with my computer. I wasn't doing anything tricky with the program, all I was doing was blanking the parts I didn't want and then clicking on export.

Anyway not to worry, I downloaded VirtualDub and this works great with DVDRB so I'm happy now. I can do everything I want now and I haven't had a single error! I seemed to have found answers to all my questions!

Thanks for all your help. I feel as though I've got an adequate understanding of backing up now and I couldn't have done it without people like you and Mort. Your help has been much appreciated.

Cheers.
