Plextor 716A sudden issues

I have had the 716a for about five months now with no problems.
Recently my p4 burnt out and I went ahead and bought a Pentium D 830 with the D101ggc mainboard. As well, I went ahead and upgraded to a 250GB WD Caviar Sata HDD.
Re-loaded windows xp and all the mainboard drivers and so forth. Went to make a back up of the great film Excaliber and all seemed fine till I put the dvd in the standalone and to my wonderment I got choppy playback for a few seconds and then a freeze.
I am using DVD Shrink, with anydvd in background and Nero 7 as my burning prog.
Things I have checked and tried:
First I called PLextor, we did the 716a self diagnostic test and it passed fine so the the burner is doing what it is supposed to do.
Second tried different film, Braveheart I think, and same results.
Checked media compatabilty list on plextor's site relized my media was not on the the list even though before the cpu crash it worked fine. Leavign nothign to chance I switched from Memorex to Verbatim 16+r with same results.
I tried backing up the hdd as image then burning, same result.
Tried all of the above at various speeds, same results.
Ditched nero for roxio same result, ditched shrink, nero, and roxio and grabbed dvdcloner3 and uses cloners burnign ap to burn with same results.
Switched IDE cables to 80 pin same reults. (plextor only, hdd is sata)
Its liek the cpu isnt in sync with the burning I am just clueless. Dma is of course enabled but I tried without it just in case and nothing.
Any insight would be great.

What speed are you burning at? Slowing your burn speed to no more than 1/2 the rated speed of your media is recommended. Personally, I use 4x and am very satisfied.

Lots of people have had issues with 16x media and of course Memorex has been known to be bad quality media at best.
What format are you using - or + as I think if you get + format Plextor 716a offers booktyping ability to DVD-ROM also to my knowledge Plextors highly favor the + format.
Why don't you try getting some nice Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim 4x/8x DVD+R and booktype them to DVD-ROM?
I'm by no means an expert to Plextor's but judging by the multiple posts on this topic this would seem to offer the most compatability.
Also are you sure your not trying to burn a copy protected DVD without first removing the protection?

Thanks for responding.
As mentioned in my initial post I switched from memorex to Verbatim + r 16x and I have tried all speads. And yes it book-types dvd-rom

Playback in PC is the same reult choppy pixel bloakcs everywhere.

Well you've done alot of trouble shooting from your posts so
if you still have a Nero log post the last one - just be sure to edit out the serial # - usually begin w/ 1A,1C,5C.
On your P4 how were your drives connected on that one?

If you have PlexTools installed have you tried disabling the PowerRec and Autostrategy in PlexTools to see if this makes any difference. The drive will then be running strictly on fw, and not taking orders on how to write the disk from PlexTools. I have been using 16x Verbs with my 716a's and there has not been any problems.

Yeah it's surely not those verbatim discs. Memorex's were probably working before the reformat too even tho not the best of media.

Many thanks for all of you trying to help out. I am about to throw this p.o.s. in the trash.
i did the clean tool and installed the Nero version reccomended and the update reccomended and same shoppy playback. No sign of an improvement. Here is the log:

Sorry you are still having problems. I see a couple of things you might want to look at.

You are writing too close to the outside edge of the disk. Select a custom output size and use ~4350MB.

I know this is getting to be a pain, and I hope you get it resolved shortly, but please bear with us, we will help you get going.

Still burning too close to the outside edge of your media. I use Shrink, not Recode, so I don't know exactly where to tell you to change the setting. In Shrink, Edit->Preferences, Target DVD size set to Custom and 4350.
Personally, I've had mixed results with Verbatim media, and you could just have gotten some from a bad batch. Try some Sony, or Fuji (check that they are "Made in Japan". I only use Taiyo Yuden media anymore, lot's less grief!
You also might want to try (so you can say you did), to slow your burning speed to 4x.

Set the target size in the first Recode window. Check fit to target, lower right, and choose custom from drop down box. Then type in 4350 (I use 4400) and click OK. That's sets the target size in Nero recode.

Its burnign now. I did set the target size in Nero the first time but the log reads otherwise so just to be sure I started up shrink and I am takign that route at 4x. I will post shortly with results.

OKay gang I did it through shrink and same results. I do nto think I was prompted to save the Nero log though so I have no log to show this time. I may have skipped by accident. Let me know if I did.

I'm not the most experienced person here by far, but I really think your problem is media related. If you're up to trying one more thing, go to www.imgburn.com and download ImgBurn. In shrink, keep the custom size setting and write your output to an ISO file. Open the file in ImgBurn and making sure the write speed is 4x, burn it again. I also suggest you check the "verify" box.

I tried the imgburn and it burned and then it went into verify mode and started failign immediately it seemed every sector was bad.

What caused your p4 processor to burn out? Could your burner have been damaged in the malfunction? Do you have a friend or someone from whom you could borrow another burner or even an external burner to see if the results are the same. If not the same then it must be the your burner.
