First of all, hi there!

I have been browsing the forums for a few weeks now and read quite a lot of posts. Subsequently i have learnt an enormous amount about DVD ripping.

I have however had a few problems with one or two DVD's. The problem as far as i can tell is that the DVD's are scratched.

In DVD shrink it comes up with a Cyclic reduncancy check (failure).

In other programs it displays various read errors. I have used all the popular DVD ripping/decrypting programs mentioned on this site.

I have also used isobuster which just hangs whilst trying to read the DVD's

Are there any programs or methods out there that can extract the data from a scratched DVD?

I have used DVDFab decrypter which seems to process it just fine (pausing a few times where the read errors occur i assume) but when i run the files through Shrink it produces an error saying the memory location can't be read.

Can anybody help me, apart from getting another copy of the disk?

Cheers all

I have read and tried, with some success, that Brasso will clean up a scratched disk. Cause that's what you need to stop all those CRC error and such. You need to clean the disk and try again. It's not so much as a software problem than a defective disk! And that's what you have .... a defective disk. If you can get the scratches out then you can rip to hard drive. If the files are defective then it's a bad disk all the way around! You might not have any choice than to replace! There are some repair disks kits that you can look up in stores that might help you out. some are expensive, others are cheap. Good luck.

I here Skip Doctor works wonders, seen them in BlockBuster you can get the manual one for about 20 to 25 bucks, the motorized one is more. Keep thinking someday I am going to invest in one of these because of the grandkids, who can really mess up disks.

I have a Skip Doctor. Sometimes it helps, and sometimes it don't. It also leaves a very noticable pattern on your disc. Doesn't work at all for burned discs.

If you have a game store nearby, they may have a re-surfacing machine. We have a local pawn shop that has one. They can take deep scratches out, and make it look like a brand new disc. They charge $2.99 here. Most of the time, places that have them, will have a poster in their window saying, "Games, DVDs, and Cds, repaired here."
Good luck!

OK then, i'll try one of those kits, or a video game shop and try to clean up the disk.

I will post back with either success or failure.

cheers all

Being that retail DVD's are pressed and burned are dye, I would not use Skip Doctor on the burned disks.
