I have downloaded an image for a game that has mode 1 instead of mode 2. Subsequently when I burn the image with Alcohol 120% the game will not work in my PS2Slim modded with a DMS4 SE chip. I have tried to extract the image with IsoBuster and then burn the files and folders like it says here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/176194 with no success. What can I do? Is there any way that I can modify the image?

Open the image in IsoBuster, and instead of extracting the files, right click the CD icon & save as a bin & cue. Alternatively, you could always extract the files, then use CDGen to rebuild it.

But this will not change the mode of the image. It is still mode 1 instead 2.
