First of all, I would just like to say that I came here on the suggestion of another member known as Vega. He believes someone here might be able to answer my question. The following post was originally posted on ZeldaPower, so it has been copied and pasted. If any BBCode conflicts arise, that is why. If this topic is in the wrong forum, then I ask that any moderator who might see it PLEASE move it to the correct one instead of deleting it. I'm a n00b for now -_-.
I bought an older laptop (PII CPU, 96MB RAM, 10Gig HDD) for $20, and I noticed it has an IrDA (infrared) communications port built into it. Well, I highly doubt I'm EVER going to make any kind of use of it, but its built in there anyway. The Sony PSP has a built-in infrared port as well for wireless multiplayer gaming, but there is a homebrew application available for older firmware versions that allows you to use the infrared communcations port to turn your PSP into a TV remote. So, the idea came to me; why would it not be possible to use the IrDA port on my laptop to control my TV?
Well, I googled it, and I found a wide range of results. One result included a program that DOES perform this function, but it is only compatible with Windows 95 due to a DLL incompatibility and memory allocation conflicts with later Windows versions. A few message boards I found had topics asking this question, but most of the replies were "STFU, n00b! U dont no nuffin; I mayk my toster kuntrol my car R0XX0RZI'MFUNY!!!11". There were a couple of intelligent replies that said the program must bypass the bios, which is possible in certain circumstances. I don't know what these circumstances are, however.
Since there is a program capable of doing this under Windows 95, then its obviously [url=http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA005810/remocon/remocone.htm]been done before[/url]. Does anyone know of a program out there that will use the IrDA port to control a TV, and is also compatible with Windows ME? I appreciate any help I can get in finding one.
