i downloaded a movie in avi format converted it with VSO to DVD then ran it through shrink to make a iso file and then burn it with decrypter and on most of the videos the audio is earlier or later than the video if anybody has any suggestions let me know . much appreciated :-)
Sometimes this can be due to poor quality media or burning too fast. There could also be a problem with the original AVI.
Is the AVI audio synced when played on the computer?
Does the audio start out synced upon playback and then go out of sync.
If it starts in sync and then goes out of sync, does it resync if you stop playback and then retart?
What is the brand and model of your burner?
What brand, type, and speed of media did you use?
At what speed did you burn the disk?
The HP +R 8X media is usually made by either CMC Mag or Philips. Neither is good media. In fact the CMC Mag is among the worst. Also burning this poorer quality media at high burn rates probably isn't helping matters. The drive is a couple years old technology wise and I have only found one firmware update to version 9H10 at the HP site.
Good media includes Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, and Made in Japan labeled Sony and Fuji disks. A good rule of thumb is to burn at 1/2 the rated speed of the media in order to increase the likelihood of a quality burn for media rated 8X or higher. Thus these 8X disks should be burned at 4X to get a better quality burn. In this case, even under the best of circumstances you may not get a high quality burn because the media is of poorer quality.
Since you have DVD Decrypter, fire it up and place a blank disk in the drive in ISO Write mode. In the righthand column on the top line, the name and firmware version should be listed. The firmware version is the 3 or 4 letter/number combination after the burner model/name. If this is less than 9H10, it would probably be a good idea to update your burner's firmware.
Farther down in the same column is a line header: Disk ID. What is the media code listed after the Disk ID: line header?
Try reducing your burn speed to 4x and see if that solves the problem. If not, get some better quality media and try that along with the reduced burn speed.
It is always a good idea to keep some RW media on hand for experimentation to avoid making a stack of coasters while trying to diagnose problems.
