I used a 120G 7200 RPM Maxtor and paid $129.00 with the help of a friend with a membership to Costco. I hooked up the drive right from the box and then put in my Slayers evox disk in and selected the option to prepare a large hard drive and in seconds it was done!

What do you mean by "locked"? What is the purpose of a locked drive?

Here is the site for the auto installer. Since it's slightly over 60Mb, I went to a computer store and paid them $5 to save it to a disk using their high-speed connection. It took only 12 Mins.

I have the Maxtor Ultra 120G 7200 RPM Drive http://www.maxtor.com/en/products/ata/retail_kits/ultra_7200_rpm/

Sorry that I don't know about it being lockable or not. It's something that I've never heard about or needed with a regular PC harddrive. You need to find a site dedicated to XBox Live, or at least someone more knowledgeable than myself :)

Any Maxtor, Westren Digital and or IBM/HITACHI (same Drive) drives are lockable. I saw a great tutorial on Xbox Scene on how to unlock/lock a Xbox HD

First of all, Slayer's sucks. Second, links to illegal content are, you guessed it, not allowed. And, third, I have a Maxtor L01J100. That is lockable. I got it from best buy for $80 this week. It is one of those 100 GB + 20 GB type deals and it's 7200 RPM.

No problem, but just to let you know that is $80 after rebates. I should have said that in the original post, but it slipped my mind. Rebates are kind of a hassle, but you don't find a 120 Gig w/7200 RPM for $80 everyday.

Hey Drew, what don't you like about Slayer? What method did you use? I think it's the fastest way to get all the applications on the box at once, instead of trying to find everything you need from different places.

My only gripe is that It would be nice to be able to load DivX and Mp3's from the CD-R, instead of messing with FTP which is tough for a beginner.

I just don't like the way he has evox set up. So, making all the changes to suit your own taste takes longer than doing it manually. I set it up the way I wanted and FTP'd into the xbox. You could just extract the Slayer iso and use the programs from there. That way you would get everything at once and be free to set evox up your own way.
