OK....well i've been using BitComet to download stuff and yesterday we got in the mail saying something about illegal download and what we should do to fix it (which would be not downloading from BitComet). They listed only one movie, even though i have done loaded several movies and CD's.... wat should i do? How did they find out?
i feel it fo ryou you got clocked.....anyway download peergardian2 and when you online or downloading keep that running...they probs found out about the torrent or file and sent an email to every one downloadind and seeding. http://phoenixlabs.org/ get it install let it run in the backround and download in peace...hope this helped mate!
Thanks....i'll use that....but i'm not sure i'll download anything for awhile...Yeah I got the letter from the cable company, but i guess whoever made the complaint was from NBC Universal... I don't think they are going to be filing like a lawsuit or anything....and the letter i got in the mail was 4 pages long so i'm not typing all of that and my scanner isn't working either...oh and it was for downloading the movie Jarhead, by axxo he does really good copies...so watch out!
To avoid this happening aggain always use PG2 (as touran22 posted) when downloading, it doesnt mean its impossible to be caught, just less likely, always be carefull and when your downlading pirated material your taking a risk straight away..
They usually ask you to erase all evidence of the download, make sure you give the letter a thourough read!!
Consider yourself lucky this time!, this is probally more serious than your thinking, I hope nothing like that ever happends to me!
If you're Canadian, your ISP will send you an email saying who contacted them and why but it ends there. I had one a couple of hundred videos ago. Apparently, we don't honor American copyright laws regarding recordings and video(don't know why) and your ISP will release no further information to them. You'll be amazed by how many companies spy on your downloading and report the results to the RIAA and MPAA. PeerGuardian is a necessity if you download.
