I have an avi file with an added srt file for english subtitles. How in the world do I merge the files to play on my standalone. Do I have to convert the file to mpeg first, and then add the subs, or do I add the subs and then convert? If anyone can help me with this process it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

You might want to try a more specific title; something more specific than basically the forum title which is implied anyway.

This is just a regular standalone or one that can handle avi/MPEG-4?

Borat187,

You might want to try VSO ConvertXtoDVD. Tried it, but didn't like the watermark on the video. I am not sure if you want to have a hard subtitle or soft subtitle. Hard subtitle is burned to your video and you can not toggle on/off.

If you just want to have a hard subtitle, try the link below. I've found it to work quite well being only a trial. No watermark at all. Get back to this thread to see how it's working for you. Also hope others with subtitle issues will check out the link.

borat, you can use a prog called avi2dvd, its excellent, free, and can encode your avi with subtitles into dvd player compatable image or vts folders for burning. The subs must be in srt format, lucky for you

/edit: must add that im having probs with adding subs to my mkv file with avi2dvd, I hope you have better luck with your avi
