Is the next generation DDR2 memory worth it?

Hey, I was contemplating changing my specs for a pc im gonna buy just for the DDR2 memory. Is having the next generation DDR2 a jump in performance? or can u even tell a difference? These were my old specs:

-AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
-Asus A8N 32-SLI-Deluxe NVIDIA Socket 939 ATX Motherboard
-XFX GeForce 7900 GTX / 512MB GDDR3
-Corsair 2Gb XMS3500 TwinX Matched Low Latency Pro Series (TWINX2048-3500LLPRO)

New specs corresponding to the DDR2 change & AM2 release:

-AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ (socket AM2)
-Asus M2N32-SLi Deluxe/Wireless Edition, Socket AM2, NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI? MCP Chipset w/ PCI Express x16 (ATX)
-XFX GeForce 7900 GTX / 512MB GDDR3
-OCZ 2Gb PC2-6400 DDR2 800MHz EL Dual Channel Gold Edition

So basically i was wondering if its worth spending a bit of extra cash to upgrade the system, im looking for performace mostly in computing power, backups of DVD's, autocad, designing suits, etc... but i also want good performance out of the latest computer games and future releases. I also heard the new AM2's have better "dual core processor managment", is this just a crock of crap? or does it really boost performance?

Again lol im not too knowledgeable in computers or have time to search haha, so if anyone can help, it would really be appreciated =)
