I just used a bunch of old parts to put together a Frankenstein of a machine but having problems with startup, and windows install. I turn the power on on the regular screen comes on saying INTEL HT Systems (where I would usually hit the F2 button to go to setup screen) but it wont let me. I can press Delete and it goes to another screen that says
Intel Corp D865PERL Board
Serial # (code goes here)
Intel P4 3.00Ghz
DDR 320-->operating in dual-channel dynamic paging mode
2048 system RAM
Legacy keyboard...detected
USB legacy...enabled
Entering setup...
Press F12 if want to boot from network

it never goes to setup so I cant make it boot from disc for XP install. Is this needing a floppy drive and boot files or BIOS? Any help would be appreciated by me and my bands webmaster who I'm piecing this thing together in an emergency for.

first thing i'd do is clear your cmos, by disconnecting the power to the computer and removing the little round battery from your motherboard. that might force it back to a working form of bios. that doesn't work, i believe you'll have to try to reinstall the bios.

Thanks for the reply, funny thing is I think taking the battery out is what caused the problem. I took it out trying to fix a different board that wasnt working, thinking that may be the problem and it wasnt so I put it back. This board has only been on the shelf a month, the other 2 years. Reinstall BIOS, never done that through floppy before, I will look up guides.

I took a few trials and errors, mostly due to shoddy old floppy discs I had hidden away that wouldnt keep the format or allow the data to be read, I succesfully reflashed the BIOS, put the jumper on the setting to force setup screen, glad it happened cause I'd never made it that far. Switched to boot from CD and checked again to ensure all hardware was recognized, and loaded up my OS and all is right in the world again.
Thanks.
