I have a dvd install on my computer, it is reading disk and will play some form of dvd movies, however it will not allow me to copy.

I would like to use the dvd to back up my system.

I am told it is my softwear. How do I go about resolving this problrm

This may be a stupid question, but.......... you have a DVD/RW drive, and not just a DVD Rom drive, right? I ask because you wouldn't believe the people that think they can burn a dvd, with a DVD Rom drive. That isn't possible. What brand and model drive do you have?

Next question......... what software are you trying to use? Most burners come with either Nero, or Roxio, and you should be able to do it with either one.

With a little more info about your drive and software, someone here may be able to help........... :o)

Hi,

Welcome to AD. If you are talking about backing up your personal dvd collection then check the first link in my signature. I would suggest trying dvdfab decrypter if it a recent movie you purchased or dvd decrypter for movies 3-4 years old. Please note the 2 programs I mention above are free.

For newer movies that you have purchased I would recommend anydvd with clonedvd2. They both have a 21-day trial period and are updated regularly to deal with the latest copy protection mechanisms dvds now have. Again take a look at the first link in my signature and if you have a specific question feel free to ask away...help is only a reply away :).

lol @ jvc I forgot to ask the basic question.

to burn or not to burn that is the question

This quote is why I said the software that came with his burner, should do the job. Sounds like he wants to back up his hard drive.

@Doc60...........
If you're talking about backing up dvds, matt72 is right about the software. Give them a try........
