agree with above, and will add
DMS4 Pro or Pro SE, not Lite or EZI
and Crystal Chip V1.1

why not the E.Z.I. is it because its solder free ( even though it says you`l need a soldering iron in the manual. hmm). the matrix is slightly cheeper than the dms4, is this due to quality?

Because the EZI (solderless) gives lots of people headaches, there's been a lot of reports that the cables come off after a while, and people ended up soldering the cables in anyway (which defeats the purpose of the solderless thing in the first place)
Matrix Infinity is a really good chip, I use it personally and never have a problem :) Apart from HDD support, I think it matches the DMS4 Pro SE in every way :)

yes i thought the e.z.i might start to cause probs down the line. i did`nt like the way it just `clips on` to the bios chip. room for a lot of error me thinks.

I think it's a good idea to have a solderless chip like that - it's just a pitty that it's not well designed/made to attract people to use it

they spent 18 months and millions of dollars developing it, mabye they should have taken a bit longer then?

Heh, I work for a R&D company and I can tell you 18 months and millions of dollars isn't all that much. It comes down to the quality of the people that designed it and how much testing they have done, and it seems to me that they didn't do enough testing, which is why you get lots of problems with cables falling off etc

well thats what you get when you rush things , but, aren`t they the same people that brought us the `pro` and `pro se` or are they different peeps in the same ecompany?

well definitely the same company. I think the chip itself is great from what I've heard (I believe it's the same as the solder version) but just the connectors didn't work out the way they wanted, which is understandable. The PS2 motherboard was never designed for a modchip to be attached afterall :)

Quote: good point.
what advice would you offer on the soldering side of the installation. i`m a bit shakey and don`t want to mess thing up. do i only get one shot at putting a chip in or can i go back over things if i make a misstake? i`m confident and able but will it f*%k the ps2 up if i make a misstake?chers dan

when you use the
thing you need to close it with
(without the space between "quote" and "]" - obviously I had to put that in so I can show you it)
Hmm if you aren't confident I'd say pay someone to do it. There are parts which you can desolder and do it again (like on the PCB), but if it's on the SMD there's a good chance if you screw up you'll damage the chip at the same time (even if you don't screw up there's still the chance of screwing up if you hold the soldering iron against the SMD for too long)
Now I'm not trying to scare you, but that's what could happen, so unless you are confident with a solder, I say pay that extra bit more and get someone to do it, it's not worth risking your console in my opinion

Teammodders.com does excellent work. They did my PS2 and Xbox, and several other people's I know as well. They ship around the world. Dan is right about the solderless chips, they're a nightmare. People end up cutting the clip too close and destroying their PS2. After the EZI chips first came out, DMS was flooded with complaints of destroyed PS2's. Solder chips are $30 less. For the same price you can pay for a professional install and have zero chance of destorying your PS2.
