Hello, I was wondering. I just got a PS2 slim. And am looking for a good/easy way to mod it.
Now, if I get a custom PS2 slim case, do I need the ghost switch ? because I already have swap disk 3.6.
Is there any disadvantages to the ghost switch ? Any easier or better methods for using a swap disk ? Thanks

Do u mean fliptop? If u do, then no, u dont need gost switch. In my opinion, fliptop is the way to go.

Basically if you just got a custom case, like a clear/blue or whatever then no you wouldn't be able to boot your backups.. you need to get a fliptop replacement for the slim, which basically looks the same except it has a cutout in the square fliptop part for you to swap the discs through without the ps2 resetting/tripping the disc break etc.
which is one of these:-
http://www.ps2laser.co.uk/HTMLobj-1973/pstwofliptopbig.jpg
pretty easy to install.
The ghost switches etc are also pretty easy to install, but the disadvantage is knowing whether they'll fit your ps2 correctly because of the different modifications that sony has made to the slim since it's release.. much easier to just go with the fliptop replacement in my opinion.

NO nonononononononono - I just told you, you'd only be swapping one case for another of the same kind if you got one like that.. it's exactly the same as the one you have, but a different colour.. you need the flip part only, like the one i linked to, then you unscrew your case, ease of the top and tilt back(not all the way off) then unscrew the original lid and install the new one with the cutout in it.. put it back together and you're ready to go.. simple as that.. takes about 5-20 minutes depending on experience etc

Paddymail please re-read the link that was provided. You said Noooooo he would only be swapping one case for another, true, but the new case has "other" stuff in it. It comes with the Ghost switch already installed. So, it is my understanding, that once you swap the cases, remove and replace 7 screws, you will be able to use your swap magic disc to play your imports and backups. Because of the switch. With teh switch engaged, the PSTwo thinks the lid is closed, you can then open it and swap in your games. I may be wrong, but I really dont think so. I am buying one, Ghost Case, tomorrow, because I am having such a hard time with my Magic Keys 2. I hate them. And, you get a fancy transparent case to boot. If I am wrong please let me know. Thanks

Hey, I ordered that case anyway. I read that link also. It has some extra thing already installed which is badass.
The case should be here tomorrow, so I'll let you know. www.Clearxbox.com is badass. Three day shipping.

yeah, my bad.. didn't read the info on that page he linked to, just saw the case and thought it was just a clear case.. it looks like a good enought case etc.. But the fact still remains that it'd be easier to swap just the fliptop part.. with this case you have to swap all the internal parts over.
Anyway, I apologise for not reading that link properly because it looked like just a clear case without any mods.. let us know how you get on with swapping everything into the new case and how long it takes you.

Cool. I just got scared i think. I really wanted one, then I saw someone say there wernt anything special. lol I panicked. But, I re-read everything and ordered it tonight. So I should have it fairly soon, hopefully by the weekend. And yes, I will let you all know how it goes. I HATE MAGIC KEYS. I can't get the one that goes near the spring to stay put. I will get it just right, but as soon as I open or close the lid, it moves. If you go back to the Ghost Case page, there is a link to Installation Instructions, click that. http://www.ps2andxboxcovers.com/manual/ps2slim.swf or try this. there is a video of installing. Looks super simple. Shouldnt take more than 15 mins or so. If you take your time. But I will definately let you know. Thanks guys,

Installing the ghost case is super easy. I haven't tried it out yet because I left my power supply at my other house... :-I
Also, Clearxbox never gave me a power button. So I had to use the original button which totally sucks because it didn't fit properly and I broke it. But I still got it in, haha
I'm not even sure if it turns on now, But I think it will. We'll see tomorrow. Good luck to me

The ghost case would perfectly... BUT
And here is a major but; I installed one for my brother... And I was testing the system out. That PS2 slim gets so hot ! way hotter than the original PS2.
Anyway, the ghost case is made-up of super thin plastic. I roughly played the system for 1 and a half to 2 hours. I goto push the button too eject the game. And BOOM, the @#!@#!@$#!% case broke !
I assume that the system overheated the plastic and broke. The whole case didn't break. Just one of the pins that swings the lid up. I can still use it, but now I gotta buy him a new one !
Anyway... it was super easy to install. And it worked without any problems. But I suggest you are very careful with the fliptop lid. And don't open it after playing it long.
Yeah... it worked, but now I'm out almost 30 bucks...

OK, so its been a while but I finally got my case installed. I played all my backups just fine. My friedn liked it so much he bought one for his "fatty". That was a little more work to install, but we had a really good time throwin it together. It wasnt very hard, just more to it than my slim. The cases look great. I just happen to have a black light on my entertainment center so now I use it all the time. lol Its bad @ss,
Also, I lost my copy of Mercanries. So I tried to download and make one. I cant get it to work. I keep getting a file with a bunch of packets. Others are one giant file, and I cant get Nero or DVD Decryptor to write them. any ideas?

You are downloading a .iso or .mdf, correct ? That sounds weird. You're going to have to be more specific. You are using a torrent ? that's the only way to go.
If you owned the game. And once bought it. It's not illegal to rent the game and copy it. Nothing illegal ! serious.
That's what I recommend.
