Hi guys been on here lots of time sbefore and you guys helped me out.
i have a compaq laptop my burner on here took a dive so i went and bought a I/o magic external been working great for about two months. I been recently having problems burning lately. Either the movie has pause burst half way through or it wont play on my dvd player. i just got some ridata disks, the first half worked now im having this problem. I went and got some JVc's and those are coasters then i went back to get some compusa brand that use to work everytime for me but no dice they wont even play. I use dvd clone and anydvd both updated. i have disabled all programs checked for spyware and dmas are right. i am puzzled. why would my stuff stop working right all of a sudden. if i buy dvds online where and what dvds are the best if thats even it?

tasho1 I would say that your problem is your media. You need to use a good quality disk such as Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden as these are the best out there to use. I have used Sony or Maxell which is better then what you are using. Best Buy has a ad for Verbatim right now 50 disks for $14.99 and that is a great price. Check it out and try them. Good luck.....

you can buy top notch media from many places online:
supermediastore.com
meritline.com
rima.com
I only use Taiyo Yuden and buy them at supermediastore.com ... they are the best.

here is a media guide for you:
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

here is a free program to find out what your manufacturer id is on your media:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...

buy the Made In Japan disk.... they are top notch media
Verbatim Made In Taiwan are the exception to this rule ... those are also top notch media!

But keep in mind that media is not the only issue that might be the reason for your player to have trouble playing your recorded DVDs:

there are plenty of reasons why certain dvds won't play in other players:

1. burning speeds: burn at 4x so there will be less writing errors (rule of thumb is to burn at half the rated speed of the disk--8X disk burn at 4x).
2. read manual for your stand alone player and use the disks that will play in your player. If your player is less than 2 yrs old then it should play the + or - R disks! I said SHOULD that's why you read the manual.
3. try booktyping your drive to DVd-ROM so it will make your +R disks more compatible to players. Read this:
http://k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php
4. make sure that there are no finger prints or scratches on your disk that make it hard for the player to read the disk!
5. use good quality media (rule of thumb....buy the ones that are Made in Japan.) Verbatim is a top notch disk and is the only exception to this rule....some Verbatims are made in Taiwan and they are top notch!
6. and don't burn too close to the outer edge of the disk ..... which will make the disk unreadable! but using good media you will be able to burn close to the edge better than lesser quality media. Just in case I only burn no closer than 4400MB, so if you can set your programs to that, all the better!

follow these little tips of the trade and you'll have better success! good luck.
