I'm getting frequent notifications from unknown sources that my computer has problems.

Here's some details:

1) I get a security montitor warning (http:\\wwwthesecuritypage.com/vc/as/sec-16sjdkfls) that the "win32.MT.Rs" virus has been detected and that I should update my security software.

2) I get a flashing yellow icon in the taskbar that reads: "Urgent System Message Virus! Your computer is infected with the last version of internet trojan (worm_attack_v122.02a). It is highly recommended that you install antivirus software. Click the icon for more information." Clicking on the icon takes me to some site for some anti-something product I've never heard of.

3) I've also got an "alert" that pops up and reads "Critical System Error! Your PC is infected by spyware. Spyware and other unwanted software refers to programs that perfom certain tasts on your computer, typically without your consent. This can include installing pop-up advertising or collecting your personal information. Anti-spyware tools can only help rid your computer of Spyware. Click "OK" to get software and special offers on antivirus software."

Since none of these alerts come from programs I recognize AND I've got updated Trend antivirus software, been running Ad-Aware SE, Spybot, and Ewido 3.5 and still these messages keep popping up - I'm thinking that the messages themselves are produced by invasive program.

I've attached my log from HiJack this below - is there anything here I can fix to remove any evil programs that could cause me grief?

Thanks!

You already dowloaded Smitfraudfix, now download Lspfix to your desktop. Do not use this yet.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lspfix.php

* Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
* Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
* Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
* You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
* The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
* A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Send the results,, and no it's not fixed yet,,,we nedd another HiJack this log,,,theres stuff there to cleanout also.

Okay you are looking a little better! But we still have a couple of items that need cleaning out

Scan again with HijackThis and put a check on the following items:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ShowLOMControl]

O8 - Extra context menu item: Download all with Free Download Manager - file://C:\Program Files\Free Download Manager\dlall.htm
O8 - Extra context menu item: Download selected with Free Download Manager - file://C:\Program Files\Free Download Manager\dlselected.htm
O8 - Extra context menu item: Download web site with Free Download Manager - file://C:\Program Files\Free Download Manager\dlpage.htm
O8 - Extra context menu item: Download with Free Download Manager - file://C:\Program Files\Free Download Manager\dllink.htm

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {9819CC0E-9669-4D01-9CD7-2C66DA43AC6C} - (no file)

After checking these items, close all browser windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked".

Then reboot your computer.

ShowLOLme may requier editing the registry

Go to Start > Run - type in the box:

regedit

Click OK.

When you get into the registry, on the leftside, click to highlight My Computer at the top. Then go up to "File > Export" Make sure in that window there is a tick next to "All" under Export Branch. Leave the "Save As Type" as "Registration Files", then save it as backup to a convenient location. Remember where you put it (I don't recommend putting it on the desktop) This is so the registry can be restored to this point should anything be deleted by accident or something else happens. It may take a minute. Just let it go until it's done.

To resolve this issue, goto the 'start menu' and goto 'run'. Type in 'regedit' and press 'ok'. The Registry Editor will load. It is important that you follow these instructions as they are written since deleting the wrong thing can have serious implications on your computer. On the left you will have a group of directories, and on the right a window which displays what registry keys are in that particular registry directory. Proceed to goto 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE' and expand it by clicking on the '+' symbol. Go to the 'Software' directory and then to 'Microsoft', then to 'Windows' and then to 'CurrentVersion', and finally to the 'Run' directory. You should now be at the below directory:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Don go any farther in the registry key ,,, look in the right hand pane for the registry editor if you see Value not set ignore the stuff below

Locate the DWORD directory entry marked in blue which is causing this issue and proceed to delete by highlighting and pressing the delete key.

WinTasks should now work as normal without any errors.

Run a new Hijack and post back here

Looking much better.

I'd remove the following using Hijack this: but you don't have to.

O9 - Extra button: Real.com - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\Shdocvw.dll
O9 - Extra button: MUSICMATCH MX Web Player - {d81ca86b-ef63-42af-bee3-4502d9a03c2d} - http://wwws.musicmatch.com/mmz/openWebRadio.html (file missing)

Lastly keep your Ewido Up todate. Don't click on any questionable link,,,Stay away from freebies your not familiar with.

Hows it running Now?

Cheers

Things are looking clean!

I really appreciate your detailed and timely help. Just out of curiousity, are you simply a good Samaritan helping folks like myself or are you also a professional helper (getting paid to do it)? Not that I disapprove if it's the latter - help is help and free help for me is still free help for me. Anyhow, please accept my sincere thanks for taking the time to help me!

Peace!

Nope I don't get paid, and am way underpaid at work too hehe. Just another member trying to help on a list I use. Kinda paying back the help to all those who have helped me here and on other lists to boot.

Keep updated and support those who need it, it'll come back to a thousand fold.

Glad your clean and your welcome!

Thanks for the clarification. Yesterday, I actually uninstalled the Free Download Manager in preference of using a FireFox extenstion "Downloadthemall". So, no harm done in this instance.

I'm having similar problems as the user who started this thread, I have a yellow icon in my task bar that says:

"Urgent System Message Virus! Your computer is infected with the last version of internet trojan (worm_attack_v122.02a). It is highly recommended that you install antivirus software. Click the icon for more information."

I downloaded HijackThis and here is the logfile after I scanned.

I'm having exactly the same problem as somweg.

Your computer is infected with the last version of internet trojan (win32.mt.rs).
