Hello All, I've been having a real problem with my PS2 backups, i've made a backup of Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, and put it in to my PS2 to test it and it worked (this was my first backup), so played on it for a while, then stopped it and did a few things around the house and such, went back a bit later to play on it again , and it would not start up again. I'm useing verbatim DVD's, and i use a sony DVD burner to burn them, and use a DVD decryter, i've followed all the guildes on this site and such. But i don't know why it worked totaly fine first time, then second time i try to play it, tit doesn't work. Any help would be very greatful, thx.

What speed did you burn the disc at? Could also be a laser problem... have you tried cleaning the laser lens? Also what version is your PS2, how do you load backups?

I burned it at 4x. No i have not cleaned the lens, but other games work fine, other backups someone else did for me a while ago, they would fine. Not sure what verson, but to get a backup to work, i put a real PS2 games in while holding the eject button, click on x to borwse the game and the memory card, then open the tray put in the backup dvd and push the tray to close (don't use the button have to push the tray in by hand).

If you got the game to work the first time, the game wouldn't need to be rebuilt... not sure what chip you got there, as I've never heard of booting a game using that method, but if it plays other backups fine it shouldn't be a problem with the chip either.
What is the disc ID of the disc you used? (you can get this from DVD Decrypter), also is it DVD-R or +R? 8x or 16x?

if the game worked the first time, probably the problem isn't in the game... Could be that, but I dont think so...
As dan168 said, try cleaning the laser! Because if it can read a game and 5min later, it cant read the same game... Could be that the problem...
You can try rebuilding the game and burning it again... but if the game already worked in your PS2, I think that this dont resolve your problem! But you can try...
One more thing... Did you have a chip?? Or you are using the swap magic method, without swap magic?? =) I didn't understand that...

Give the laser lens a clean and see what it does, also you might want to try some DVD-R 8x, they seem to work better than the 16x from what I've heard on this site. Could also be problem with the Verbatim discs you have (e.g. fake ones), but can't tell until you get the disc ID

16X discs are sketty at best when doing games. Some PS2's just have a problem with them.
I did a game and burned at 4X on a 16X disc and it did not work, then i cleaned the laser and it worked.
Other people have said they had to burn the 16X discs at 6X before they could get them working.
So try a few other speeds. Also you should get some good quality
8X DVD-R discs which will work out much better.
Never heard of that loading method before myself, but you may not really have a chip. In the old days they had a chip that was really an eject mod, that would stop the PS2 from resetting when you pressed eject so you could do stuff like that.
I suggest that you get a good modchip or buy Swap Magic because they will work better than the current method which sounds like a pain.
If you have a eject mod then Swap Magic would be all you need. As long as it would not reset you could stick in Swap Magic, swap for your back up, then play.

The ps2 must be one of the old-style models if you have to push the tray closed. On the back there should be a "SCPH XXXXX" number. What is it? Also sounds like you're using a memory card exploit to load your backups. Was it already modded when you got it from your girlfriends' dad or did you have someone do it for you?
I also agree about switching from 16x to 8x's. And cleaning the laser is always good to do once-in-awhile, but if your other backups are still working then I don't think a dirty laser is your problem right at this moment (still, clean it). Explain what's happening when you put the MK SM backup in.
