I also had this message keep appearing and it's to do with your paging files and allocating the most memory to a specific task.

Because it would be quite long winded to explain in detail, go to help and support centre on your pc (I presume you have XP) and it's explained in detail and how to change your paging file memory.

The one thing that stuck in my head was that the paging file should be at least one and a half times actual memory. e.g. If you have 512 ram the paging file size should be 768.

Hope this helps.

You are correct here. But the question to John is why is he running out of VM? How much RAM is installed? Is your HDD full? What apps/services are loading at startup?

You can look for a memory hog by opening up Task Manager (ctrl-alt-del for XP home, ctrl-shft-esc for XP pro) and add the Virtual Memory field to the precesses tab. Sort by VM size and see whats eating up all the VM.

In my previous post, I explained how to look for a memory hog.

Sounds like you should be OK with those settings, although I would let XP manage the swap file for itself. Run it for a while, and abuse it a bit by opening a bunch of stuff at once. See what happens.
