i kno this forum isn;t about blu ray but iw as wondering if i should even buy a new computer with a dvd burner in it, because blu ray or hd dvd may take over teh movie industry soon....and if i want to make back ups of the dvds i won how can i when some of my newer ones say copy protected??

Blu-Ray and HD-DVD won't be that standard for a while, so it would be perfectly feasable to buy a new PC with a DVD burner installed in it. As for making backups of the DVD you own, here are a few programs and a guide to help you do that.

DVDFab Decrypter: http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm
DVD Shrink: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_...
Imgburn: http://www.imgburn.com

You can usually skip the VobBlanker step and proceed on to DVD Shrink. Make an ISO image with DVD Shrink and burn with Imgburn.

alright thanks,
so with these programs i can copy and burn a dvd of mine even if it has the copy protection on it?
And if i buy a computer with a dvd burner on it i can always buy an external blu ray or hd dvd one i suppose.

Those programs will backup about any movies on the market today. At 25 bucks per disc for blanks and the players going for around $700 it will be a while before Blu-ray backups will be affordable, but you could always add one onto a system in the future.
