is spyware blaster actually working?

i downloaded spyware blaster and it says that it stops spyware from actually getting on to your pc, which is all good but doesnt spyware blaster need to run in the proceses to work?
it is only open when i click on the program.

it works if you go to a certain prohibited site or a active x processes try to run on your pc, spyware blaster "blasts" them..beleive me it works ;)
