Hey. I have a hifi in my room with just about every input in the world in the back. I want to connect my mp3 player to it to play my mp3 music through the speakers etc.
Now there was some extremely small amp thingy with computer speakers that i was given from my dad, to connect my mp3 player to, and it works very well only the speakers are not loud enough.
My normal speakers have normal speaker cable, and an audio cable thing (yellow and black cable) with a normal audio plug thing on the end, the same as them computer speakers connecting to that amp.
I connected these normal speakers to this tiny excuse for an amp, but when played it only came out the top bit of the speaker. You know, you have one big cone and then a small one above. It only came out of the small one and sounded awful.
Basically, what cable do i need to connect my mp3 player to my hifi? What are the inputs it can go in?

If you have Radio Shack over on your side of the pond you could probably pick one up there.Just plug it into the jacks on your stereo marked AUX-IN adjust the mp3 volume about midway at first and then adjust the volume on the stereo.You may want to try adjusting the mp3 volume up or down to achieve the best sound.

I must agree,Parts Express is the place to buy just about anything audio/video related.I have puchased many,many items there and will continue to do so in the future.The only problem is,I don't think they ship overseas as our friend Billy is on the "other side of the drink."They are located in Ohio.

Billybob,
It should. I bet there is simply not enough power to drive the woofers. Moving a little tweeter takes little power, but saturating a mid-woofer coil enough to drive it will take a few watts ;). What this connector will do is send a small signal to the amp/reciever and it will in turn amplify the signal and basically act like another component (ie: CD player)

Hey again!
How would i go about hooking my t.v up to my hifi?
I was wondering whether i could use that lead also, and plug it into the headphone input of the t.v! Would that work?
Is there an alternative way of doing it?
Also, can you get...aux hubs or adaptors or anything. Like an extension lead, make more aux inputs out of one. Kinda like a port hub?
or could u jsut use a headphone splitter with that lead to hook it up to multiple things?
Sorry about so many questions, they are all inevitably stupid sounding to people of your lots experience lol.

Billyboy...you should state what kind of TV and what kind of "hi-fi". There could be a dozen different answers to that question.
P.S. Yes, you can buy some rather inexpensive devices which will allow you to connect multiple components to, say, an aux input...it simply switches which signal from which component goes to the amplifier. Again, tell us what kind of TV and what kind of amplifier. How are you by the way?

Sorry gerry, its a small portable tv with audi oand video inputs, the yellow and white ones, and thats about it!
The hifi.....has video/aux inputs, similar looking inputs with "phono in" next to them, two blak subwoofer speakers and the surround speakers.
Its kinda a built in amp, wierd piece of crap, i think this is jsut gonna be a quick fix, and i might buy a cheap home cinema system, for my room.
Could you tell me what to search for for that "inexpensive" devices you were speaking of. THanks.
Im fine thanks mat,e ill email you tomorrow. Its 3:25 am here! Summer holidays though, and i have a paper round in 4 hours, so i cant be bothered to sleep. Ha!

Billyboy...look for a red and a while "audio out" on your TV and connect it to the "aux in" on your amplifier. I'll look for and post a link for that device I was talking about. If you don't have those red and white RCA (composite)"audio out" plugs, then you're out of luck my friend. It looks like this:

ha. Yeh im outa look then, oh well. i have a yellow and a white one, thats it. Daymn.
Im getting a prologic reciever though, the Eltax avr 280. under £100 and im gonna build my own surround sound ha!
A little projext of mine...along with my computer im building, i might hook the computer up the the reciever too!

@billyboy...do you no longer have the user manual for the TV? Is it possible that those are audio outs all the same? Yellow usually indicates it carries a video signal but that is here is the US and it might be different on a small older TV. My point is, those two plugs have a purpose, what are they? If it's a video signal and a mono out, you could still hook it up, you need merely get a cable that converts one RCA plug into two...you then hook it up to the left and right inputs on the amp. It won't be stereo but rather mono, but it would still sound better. Looks like this (yea, posting pics is fun now that I know how! LOL)

Ill go check what they are called now..... ok ones a video and the other is an audio input.
Explain how that thing works again? It splits it into two, and then what do i need to connect that to the tv?

@billyboy...ah yes, summer holiday, I'd forgotten about that. Wish I had one LOL! Enjoy it while you can me boy!
I hate to rain on your parade but if those are video and audio "INPUTS" on the back of your TV, then they're for an older mono VCR, you need "outputs" to connect to your hi fi.
I looked up your avr and its quite nice me boy. Does it come with speakers or will you need to buy those seperately? If you need to buy them seperately, then post before you buy because there are a few things you need to know first. Also, I say some rather nice and inexpensive speaker packages on some Brit sites when I was looking up something for someone else. Gotta go,,,I've a meeting to attend.

No speakers, i buy seperately. Looking on www.eltax.com theres some good "power speakers" and subwoofers (the main!).
By input i mean its to put a wire INTO. Ill take a picture tomorrow, ha ha, im so dumb at this subjecT!

Gerry, when i get that avr, how do i connect m t.v to it? I know i can read the manual when i get it but i cant wait that long ha.
I have an av cable, with the yellow red and white plugs on each end.
ANd they are outputs in my tv, not inputs, i was just confused.
