Archos AV560 Defragmenting

I recently purchased an archos AV560, afer transferring dvds directly from my dvd player through the tv cradle supplied i connected it to my pc and ran defragmenter,after analysing the drive it advised me to defrag which i did, the process ran its course and at the end a notice came up to say that some of the files could not be defragmented. I rang archos technical support and was told that i should never defragment any of the drives on their devices, does anyone else have this problem?, or maybe some idea as to what is the best policy?, the drive is a FAT32.
