Hello all,
Though I'm not a complete noob in the world of modification and backups, I haven't had much experience fooling with SATA stuff as I've never owned a card or mobo with it on it.
Odly enough, the only device I could find in my area is a Serial ATA RAID controller from Western Digital. It has 2 sata ports that can be used by themselves or in a RAID array.
My issue is that when I use boot disk and use the command A:\>mtkflash r /sata /m orig.bin or the normal command located in the readme, I get options for 1: IDE Sec Master and 2: IDE Sec Slave, neither of which are my SATA connection to my drive.
I suppose my question is, do I need to hexedit mtkflash (which I have absolutely no idea how to do, I have read the tutorials but it is completely greek to me), find another SATA pci card (one not designed for RAID perhaps), or just give up and put my box back together again. That last part was a joke. I'll break it before I give up :) such is my nature.
Thanks for any info you may impart on me

well, I tried my hand at hex editing mtkflash.exe but no luck. I did manage to get a third and fourth selection to come up on the drive selection part though they did not work (and labeled with giberish). Oh well. I'll see what I see tomorrow.

make sure you use the differnt commands i detailed in the email, and do not power on the xbox until you are at command prompt. double check raid in your bios and be sure it is set to disabled.

i can tell you right now though that its not goign to work, i couldn't find any io port with 7 byte difference, i just did the first and third... maybe it'll work but i doubt it. you need to pick up a via vt6421L sata pci card, those work beautifully.

yay! microsoft hotmail 'permenantly' blocked mtkflash.exe for being a potentially unsafe attachment. oh well. I think you hinted what the real problem is anyhow. Think I'll return the card today. Glad I bought it in meatspace now. Internet returns are always such a bi***.
Thanks for all your help Ronnie.

k, making headway. got a via 6421 chip on pci now. gotta head to work. initial attempts to use out of box and with a shot at hex editing mtkflash were unsuccessful.... heading to work. Will try again later.
Any helpful tips appreciated.

I did it :) managed to fake my way through it hehe. I think what really turned the tide was maybe by disabling all my ide drives in the bios. Plus I think I finally tweaked the hex on mtkflash just right. Lots of Luck, lots of help. Thanks all.

if you edited the mtkflash it will either not work or work. so it must have been the mtkflash, no need to turn off ide in bios. But if you want me to double check you can send me a screeny and i'll edit it, that way when you keep reflashing your drive for backing up a game, you wont need to go through all the bios this

thanks but I think I'm all good. I don't really plan on reflashing every time to do backups. I think ima just grab them from 'other' sources.

that info is severly lacking.. install the new chipset for your motherboard, for some reason its not picking up your sata port fully.

when i say new chipset, i mean download new drivers for your motherboard, and see if your updated motherboard shows more stats :)
