.img file is just another format for a CD/DVD image, it's similar to .iso.
What game is it? If it's a DVD I suggest you use DVD Decrypter, it's better at doing that.

its crazy taxi, a cd game. i did download it, maybe it is a bad file. my question is do modchips accept .iso or does it matter? cause iv tried about 7 cd-rs none of them work, none of them are even in iso format. i just tried backing up my taiko drum master game, and that didnt even work after i followed every step of that guide. wtf?

It doesn't matter what image format it uses, as long as you burn the image file to a disc it should be fine (and by that I don't mean burn the .img or .iso file directly to a disc)
What modchip do you have?

You used the CD disc to boot the game right?
Also could be that you are not using the slide tool properly? How exactly do you do it?

Did you lock the tray with the slide tool after you pushed it back?
The media you use shouldn't matter as much, being a CD game. I almost always burn at full speed and never had problems..

To lock it you basically reverse what you did for unlocking it and dragging it out with the slide tool - I think to drag it out you insert the slide tool, move it to the left then drag? To lock it, push it back by hand (btw, when I did this the slide tool stayed with the tray the whole time, I didn't take it out until I locked the tray), then when you can't push it any further, move the slide tool to the right to lock it, THEN remove the slide tool.
PS2 tend to not like CD as much as DVD... you could try rebuilding it to a DVD? Have a look here:

Er no, most are... not all though.
There's a sticky on what media to use, I don't have the link to it but here's your top 3 options:
1) Taiyo Yuden
2) Sony
3) Verbatim
Remember to get DVD-R, 8x, a lot of people have problem with the 16x discs (although it looks like 8x is fading and harder to find now)
