First I like to say that I've honestly researched and tried to fix this problem myself. I've defraged my drives, run numerous reg, virus, and spyware scans. I've also deleted programs that were not installed prior to the slow startup problem.

When I first built my PC, the start up was fine; it took about 25-30 sec. I didn't start noticing a change in my startup until I started experimenting with building an HTPC. The first change wasn't time of start up, but the way it started up.

At first it started up regularly and went directly to my desktop, then I noticed that it changed from going directly to my desktop to a blue screen in which I'd have to click on my username before it would continue to my desktop. I should mention that the start up still only took about 25-30sec. Lastly, after a few days or so, I noticed a delay before the username screen. Right after the black MS Windows XP screen, there is a screen that is totally black; no words, no nothing. It would last about 35-45sec, which pushes my startup time to about a minute or so. I don't know why this black screen is there, but I won't to get rid of it.

Can anyone help?

PS I've sinced unistalled all the HTPC programs, but stilled the black screen exists :wallbash:

Did you run your virus scan in safe mode? In safe mode none of your start up programs will start. It gives the virus scan the ability to scan all sectors of you hard drive. If you did run it in safe mode then download Hijack-This. It is a free download from hijack-this.org

After it does a full scan on it remove any files from the registry that shouldn't be there. You do not have to run this program in safe mode for it only scans your registry. I do fore warn you not to delete something if you are not sure. If need be look up the registry entry using google. A site will tell you if it is a necessary file.

See if that helps. Good luck!
