SLI can run up some money on the motherboard, since it's to support dual video cards. it's just a question of how much gaming you want to do with that. What kind of fan did you want? one to cool down the processor?

You don't really want SLi even if you are a gamer, but SLI boards are the best quality and have the best features.

You can use something like an Athlon64 3500+ (Socket 939) in an Asus A8N-SLi SE motherboard with an X1800GTO video card. I'd still recommend updating your PSU, if it came with your case, it's unlikely 450W. If it says 450 on the label it's going to be about 250 tops. Grab something like an Aspire 500W from newegg.

Well under 500 for all that.

Sorry, can you tell me which one it is? My PC doesn't like looking at the newegg website for some reason, I live in the UK. It's been fine before, but sometimes I just can't get through... :-(

Never mind, got it now. A8V's use the VIA chipset which isn't as good as the nForce 4, particularly if you're overclocking you'd want the A8N-SLi, whether you'll use SLi or not.

Erk. wrong thread. I'm a mess!

You'd find an nForce 4 chipset faster and it's just a better mobo overall.

Heh cool. I'd recommend the nForce 4 over any other chipset, at least on socket 939 and 775. Not sure about the 500 on AM2, but let's not complicate things further!

You can use both stick in there, but they both will be clocked down to pc2100 since it accomodates the slowest one. So you will be running those two sticks at pc2100. It should be alright until you get better ones. If you plan to upgrade, which I hope you do soon to get better performance, I recommend at least 1gb of ram. Two is even better. Corsair XMS series are top of the line.

one gig

not only is XMS fantastic, it's also quite cheap as long as you don't go for the CAS2 stuff. You'd be better off using 3200 in a newer system, 2100 really will cause a bottleneck.

Games is what I want and I went 4200+ with an A8N-SLi, but the SE version because I don't need uber-fanless stupendous number of S-ATA ports gunk.
